- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2025Arrived super fast! The absolute best rendition of Marie Antoinette bar none! I have seen Norma Shearer, Kristin Dunst Chevalier and others this one is superior!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2025A lot of sexual stuff in this first season. They censored the second season, so be aware of this before you start the series. They censored the words, blurred photos, and cut out scenes. The storyline is okay. It's more of a fantasy than a reality at times. Some of the scenes/lines are downright silly. They could've done with a better writer. I love the costumes and wigs. The woman that plays Marie Antoinette is adorable, but she, as an actress, always looks stressed or tired. She's very likeable in this series, as is King Louie. Not one of my favourite series, but I'm following it until the end. I hope they don't censor the third season. It's worth the watch if you follow all the shows like this.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2023Who Marie Antoinette was as a person has always been obscured by her story being told at the time by two opposing groups, both of which either disliked or outright despised her. The Monarchists hated her for being an outsider who chafed at the rules of the court, which were alien to her as an Austrian and were further exacerbated by her being thrust into the situation at the age of fourteen. The Revolutionaries hated her for being, at the time, one of the highest ranking members of the Ancien Régime, and for the rumors, to varying degrees true or untrue, spread by her enemies in the court. As a result modern representations have to consider the multitude of cultural biases in the contemporary historical presentations of her to unveil what was really at work in how she was portrayed at the time, which can otherwise be daunting to someone so far removed from that time, place and culture. Through all of this, this BBC production truly excels and the first season of this production is highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2023We (my daughter and I) saw the series on TV but wanted to watch it later marathon style on our day off. It is a really well done series and beautifully shot. I just love period movies like this. It is not completely "G" rated in my book. It is a little strong on the "realities of life at Versailles". If you can handle a little of the Versailles Reality, this is a really great one to watch.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2025You don't see a lot of period pieces from France or this time period, so this was a different change of pace. Antoinette stands out as she's not like anyone else. She appears more modern, while everyone else seems to be of the time period.
It's an interesting diversion- lots of relationship angst and politics.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2024Great show -- well done. Looking forward to the next season! (dvd was just fine - no issues)
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2024I don’t know what is going on with Amazon but I received a scratched dvds for a brand new released movie which is just horrible. I loved the show when it aired on pbs.

Filmé a Versailles et dans des décors luxueux.
L'or et les cristaux se mélange au destin d'une reine à la fin tragique.
Murray Wm. VintReviewed in Canada on June 19, 20235.0 out of 5 stars First class drama series.
First class period drama deserving of appearing on Masterpiece. Exceptional, well done visually as well as informative of a period in French history that is not widely known. Stand-out performances by the principles and I look forward to Season 2.

Just plain bloody weird.

Samuel LaroqueReviewed in France on July 20, 20232.0 out of 5 stars Pas une série historique
