From the Author

Looking to read more of Tawna's sexy, heartwarming romantic comedies, but not sure where to start? Here's a handy reading guide!

The Front & Center series
Each book in this risqué, laugh-out-loud military series is written as a standalone romantic comedy, but if you'd like to read them in release order, here's how they go:
  • Book 1: Marine for Hire
  • Book 2: Fiancée for Hire
  • Book 3: Best Man for Hire
  • Book 4: Protector for Hire
The First Impressions series
Centered around a PR & Branding agency, the super-steamy First Impressions series is written so each of these laugh-out-loud romantic comedies stands on its own. If you'd prefer to read them in order, here's a key:
  • Book 1: The Fix Up
  • Book 2: The Hang Up
  • Book 3: The Hook Up
Single title romantic comedies from Montlake Publishing
These romantic comedies are longer than Tawna's category romances, and sometimes deal with weightier subjects like divorce and infidelity. They're still romantic comedies at heart, but expect a few tears to be thrown in with the laughter. The books are not tied together in any way, and can be read in any order.
  • About That Fling
  • Let It Breathe
  • Now That It's You

Single title romantic comedies from Sourcebooks
Lengthier than Tawna's series books, but zanier than any of her other titles, these wacky, sexy romantic comedies can be read in any order.
  • Making Waves
  • Believe it or Not
  • Frisky Business
Novellas and other offbeat options
The Getting Dumped series offers a cute, cozy mystery in a choose-your-own-adventure format (as does the spinoff novella, The Great Panty Caper), while the standalone romantic novella Eat, Play, Lust is a short little racy romp designed to be devoured in one sitting.
  • Eat, Play, Lust
  • The Getting Dumped series
  • The Great Panty Caper

After reading the positive reviews, this book seemed like a sure way to spend a few hours enjoying a great story. However, before the end of the first chapter, I knew I’d made a mistake. The plot is so contrived it was ridiculous and the only thing worse than the plot was the writing.

This story is a parody of every romance story I’ve ever read. Sadly, most spoof’s at least offer a small hint of humor. “I have more brothers than pubic hairs.” just didn’t do it for me.

First we’re told the ex-husband ran off with a stripper. Ah…that’s HE LEFT HER. Yet the premise of getting the military specialist super sniper hero with his bulging muscles to be her nanny so he could protect the heroine from her ex? Did I miss something?

Full of inconsistencies, it was also obvious this author padded the story with anything that came to mind. Example… “Look, it’s not just the ex <I’m worried about>. There are bad drivers in Hawaii.” Huh??? The heroine’s best girlfriend can wrestle a 160-lb pit bull to the ground and in one punch had knocked out a frat boy who’d grabbed her a$$. “Anyone who messed with Kelli lived to regret it.” The heroine needs the hero…WHY???

The request for the hero to protect the heroine comes from her brother who “had moved on to some sort of top-secret government work…and whatever it was he did now, it made him extremely wealthy.” (That’s a quote from the book) and who further assured the hero, “We’re dealing with the situation.” So again, the hero is needed WHY?? I suppose so someone will be there to use the “super-magnum-jumbo condoms” this writer made clear were stored in the heroine’s medicine cabinet. In the first chapter. Are you kidding me?

I couldn’t finish this ‘story’. Save yourself a couple of bucks and spend it on something remotely enjoyable.

Tawna Fenske should be a must read for anybody who likes humour in their romance. No one does it better and again this author had me laughing and occasionally snorting out loud while reading this book. Watch out for the scene in the park with Sam and the twins, it's a favourite of mine. It had me wiping tears of mirth away. Seriously.

This book was so much fun to read, the premise of a big beefy marine playing nanny and bodyguard at the same time was one I was happy to read. I enjoyed it so much that I almost read this book in one sitting, the only thing that stopped me was my eyes closing of their own accord.

I absolutely loved Sam and Sheri. The single mum to adorable twins had me wanting to offer help just so she could get a break. Plus Sam the manny was just awesome. You will melt when you read his interactions with the twins. The chemistry is hot between these two, there are some extra funny, hot and unexpected scenes when they are trying to deal with that attraction.

When marine Sam is asked to play manny/bodyguard to his best friends sister and her twin boys, he expected to go, help and be out of there in 2 weeks. Anything to help and keep the sisters arse of an ex away till he ships out to his new assignment. Oh and as per Mac the brothers order, keep his hands off Sheri and don't let her know the reason he is really there. But things don't always go to plan.

Sheri is about to start a new job, is exhausted from looking after her twins, needs a nanny and has a ex military husband who ran off with a stripper but now wants her back. Not to mention over protective brothers and a not so slight aversion to military men. The last thing she expected was for her brother to turn up with Sam. Manny extraordinaire.

I don’t normally read romances with children in it. Let’s be honest, it can be a little awkward and distracting when there’s thoughts of hard-ons one minute and children joyfully laughing in the next. So I went into this one with some reservation about there not only being one kid in the mix but two. However, the author did an amazing job incorporating the infants into the story that didn’t make it awkward at all.

There was quite a bit of humor in the story. Right in the beginning you have Sheriden and her friend Kelli hanging out in the kitchen unwinding. Kelli is exactly like me. I have four children, all of which are covered in fur and have four legs. I never received the “mommy gene”. The puking, crying, pooping just sounds like a nightmare. However, scooping crap out of a box and cleaning up regurgitated furballs doesn’t faze me. Yup, Kelli and I are two peas in a pod.

“I love you, Sher. And I’ll gladly hold you hair back if you need to puke in a bathroom toilet on girls’ night. But there’s no way I’m helping you wash diapers.”

The story is written in both Seriden and Sam’s POV. Even if there weren’t a break in between the two, you could clearly tell them apart. Sheriden is worried about not being a good mother while weighing the ramifications of jumping her “manny”. Meanwhile, Sam is reciting Marine jargon and rehashing what to do in combat situations when changing the boys’ diapers. The author did a great job in creating the characters personalities and letting them shine through the pages.

I’d have wished that the author had taken some chances with this story. Right from the synopsis you know how the story ends. Heck, I pretty much knew everything that was going to happen before finishing the first chapter.
