Reef Capable LED Lighting System
Enhance your Aquatic World with Illumination
The Marineland Reef Capable LED Lighting System is the perfect solution for bringing color and high definition to your underwater environment. Illuminate your aquarium with a sleek and durable LED light. Provide vibrant and natural looking light without manually turning the on and off switch every time. Set your timer, relax, and enjoy your underwater world with the Reef Capable LED lighting system. With an integrated timer this system allows you to regulate its blue and white, 1 watt LED’s and bring high quality and efficient lighting to your aquarium in a simple way. Provide Actinic light which replicates deep water light for proper coral growth and mimic the effect of natural sunlight with the high quality LED lights.
Integrated Timer to Control Three Light Modes
Be in full control of your aquatic lighting. Design your own light cycle and give your tank the right lighting at the right time. Regulate the 460nm blue and 10,000k white LED’s that are ideal for both fresh and salt water tanks. Set a cycle of what time you want your blue LED’s on/off and what time you want your white LED’s on/off, with two simple buttons.
The Marineland Reef Capable LED lighting system does not require bulb replacement. All three rows of the lighting system give off an underwater shimmer that last up to a 50,000 hour lifetime. The blue LED’s are encased in a polycarbonate lens to maximize light penetration in your aquarium. White and blue LED lights create the perfect balance for the daylight and lunar settings of your choice. The lights are housed in an innovative aluminum shell that pulls heat away from the LED’s and aquarium.
Use Preprogrammed LED Light Cycle or Set up a Unique LED Light Cycle
The LED lighting system is preprogrammed out of the box. Below is the programmed cycle the lights will follow if you chose not to set your own. You can override any cycle at any time, turning a light on or off and still have it default back to what is set.
The Right Size Light for your Aquarium
Sizes range from 18 to 60 inches in length and provide the perfect start to accurately fitting for your aquarium. After selecting the model that’s best for you, adjust the mounting legs for a secure fit.

The unit itself is small about 19" long 5" wide and stands a total of 2" tall (the actual unit is about an inch thick and stands an inch off the surface.)
Light output is excellent. I choose the Reef model over the double bright units for 2 reasons first of course is the amount of light it produces (almost 3x) and 2. The fact that these are rated for 50000 hours where as the double brights are rated at only 17000 hours.
"Technically" the reef system might run 11 years at 12 hours per day vs the double bright only 3.87 years (I don't think the other components will last that long but the main reason still stands its much brighter.)
I posted two pictures, This tank is still not up and running as I stopped having fish about 5 years ago and am just now getting around to getting it going again.
I do wish to point out that the unit generates a good amount of heat. The top of it is hot to the point where you can not put your hand on it. The LED side however stays pretty cool and you can touch the LED's and they only seem warm to the touch.
I am going to order 1 more unit as one thing that disappoints me is that the light does not disperse as much as I had hoped with the fixture towards the front of the tank the back seems poorly light up.
I may just do a 24" double bright for the back but may just end up with 2 of these.
My 1 major complaint is of course the same complaint everyone else has. Why are there not 2 power cords? one for the blue led's and one for the white ones? There is only 1 3 way power switch its either all on, all off or blue only.
I'll update the review with the temperature of the unit as soon as I find my temperature scanner.
The package came within the specified shipping period. As I began to open the packaging I was feeling better about my purchase before I had even seen the fixture. It was VERY safely packaged. The unit itself was in it's retail packaging, which was boxed in a snug fitting outer box. That box was placed in a bigger box which had a VERY ample supply of bubble wrap surrounding it. I felt very confident that the item couldn't have been damaged in shipping. It was very secure.
After taking the fixture out of it's packaging I inspected the unit. It seemed to be a solid build. It did not seem cheap or flimsy (which is what I was kind of expecting). It fit nicely over the top of my tank. It's a snug fit. My tank is 18 inches across. The legs adjusted without a problem.
After I was done placing the fixture over the tank, I noticed a label on the box which I didn't expect. It said it had a timer built in! The product description here on Amazon does not mention this. So that was a VERY pleasant surprise. I was able to time the day lights and the blue light separately. I was so excited about this feature that I didn't expect to get.
Once it was installed and plugged in (timers set), I was able to really step back and check out the light distribution and color throughout the tank. WOW! That's all I was able to say once I saw the color of my coral and fish just POP! I was seriously so happy I started to laugh. I do not regret this fixture in any way. The price was right. The product is good quality. The overall experience was way above my expectations. The unexpected timer was a treat.
If you are reading reviews and you read anyone bad mouthing this product, DO NOT BE AFRAID! Buy this product! If this is your price range, this is what you are looking for. I wish I could give it more stars.
This will render all the unit useless and drive the poor inhabitants in the aquarium crazy, since the lights will go on and off at any time of day/night depending at what time power was lost.
To those that designed this stupid system and those that approved production of it, I should tell: This is the year 2014, all clocks self adjust and have a small back up battery or capacitor that will keep the proper time of day and on/off user's preset times in the event power fails.
This is otherwise a very nice unit.
