Mark David, an author with a passion for crafting mystery-thrillers that know no bounds, in time or place. THE VISION for my books is to break new ground. Go beyond the boundaries of established genres and bring something bold and unique to the international fiction marketplace – making it available to the reader in new ways, connecting reader with author and what’s on offer.
I yearned for realms of fiction that goes beyond the boundaries of the physical world, touching those aspects of us that makes us who we are – ideas, memories. And dreams. Eventually I felt I had to dedicate myself to getting the stories out that kept me awake at night. Then one train ride after visiting Sweden in the autumn of 2007 – and the seed that germinated into The Elements was planted. Since then it has grown. And grown… and I’ve been busy, very busy researching, story-weaving, editing… and then more research.
The Elements is a unique hybrid – bridging the lonely world of spy-adventure with archaeological discovery, crime and thriller. The series offers a thematic and enigmatic mystery of such magnitude, that it will I hope, provide the kind of constantly evolving process of reader discovery I feel so much fiction is lacking today. I have to this end added many layers of back-plot and complexity into The Elements mix, resulting in dark, brooding, rich eclectic cocktail of mystery, adventure and not least, a conspiracy thriller as we know from the X-files (without the aliens).
My genre is historical mystery-thriller - being the easiest description. There are also elements of conspiracy-thriller, crime and spy. I could identify genre-elements of Stieg Larsson, Dan Brown, James A Michener, John Le Carré and Wilbur Smith. The story universe (elementamundi.com) draws on many sources, working with timelines and multiple character points of view with a back-plot that places The Elements in the same level of epic scale as we know from Fantasy.
