David Schnasa Jacobsen draws together the strengths of two exegetical approaches to the Gospel of Mark in this volume of the Fortress Biblical Preaching Commentaries series. Jacobsen takes a broad thematic approach to the first Gospel, while at the same time giving exegetical and homiletical insights about individual pericopes in their narrative context. By helping preachers and students make connections between the various lections from Mark throughout Year B in their sermons and studies, they and their parishioners will have a deeper appreciation of Marks unique interpretation of the Christ Event and how that influences their approach to living the Christian faith in todays world.
With liturgical sensitivity and exegetical skill, Jacobsen provides a unique preaching resource that will build biblical literacy by assisting both preachers and listeners in understanding Marks Gospel as narrative-theological whole, not just as a collection of loosely related stories.

About the author

David Schnasa Jacobsen was 2020 President of the Academy of Homiletics. He is the newly appointed Bishops Scholar of Homiletics and Preaching at Boston University School of Theology. David's books range from homiletical interpretations of Mark and other apocalyptic texts to grasping anew what a theology of the gospel might mean for preaching today. He is a preaching professor whose work combines the best of homiletic theory, Biblical studies, and theology.
David views preaching as offering a theological lens to help the church truly see and engage a world that God still "so loves." He wants preaching to connect humbly and vibrantly with today's pluralistic public square. David leads the BU PhD in Practical Theology's concentration in Homiletics and enjoys working with preaching doctoral students to "name God into the world" again.
Born and raised in South Dakota, David has been a visiting professor at the University of Kiel in Germany and was for many years Professor of Homiletics at Waterloo Lutheran Seminary and the Toronto School of Theology in Canada.
