Mystery, suspense and humor for children and adults have won my books many awards. My favorite reward though is hearing children laugh and getting kind reviews from readers. One Mom recently wrote about Welcome to Monstrovia, "Now my son wants to be a lawyer." Love it!
My latest award-winning mysteries are comical cases that introduces law as a Perry Mason-Sherlock Holmes for today. Book 1: WELCOME TO MONSTROVIA received a great Kirkus review, won a Silver medal in the Benjamin Franklin Book Awards, Bronze medal in the Readers' Favorite Book Competition and 1st Place in the Royal Palm Literary Awards of the Florida Writers Association (unpublished manuscript). Book 2: THE CASE OF THE DISASTROUS DRAGON was voted a Top Ten Children's Book in the P&E Readers Poll and won 2nd place in the RPLA. Book 3: THE CASE OF THE CRAZY CHICKENSCRATCHES, is on KIndle now. I'm grateful readers love this series about a boy who becomes the assistant to his lawyer uncle in Monstrovia, a secret sector of the United States where clients are anything but human and surprises and laughs are everywhere.
In THE ROCKHOUND SCIENCE MYSTERIES, kids catch crazy crooks by fun experiments like making ice pops, learning to read a pulse, and making a simple copy stand. These fun mysteries won Learning Magazine's prestigious Teachers Choice Award. THE MIDNIGHT DIET CLUB, a comical look at bullying won 1st Place in the Florida Writers Association Royal Palm Literary Awards and is now a great audio book. My picture books, SANTA'S SPEEDING TICKET, ALICE IN BATSYLVANIA, A BITE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, DREIDEL DOG, and PASSOVER PUPPY COLORING BOOK, are loaded with fantastic illustrations by Dan Traynor as well as laughs and surprises.
HOLIDAY HELPINGS, THE STORY SHOP, and CRITTER CAPERS, are filled with funny and heart-warming short stories and poems for children that make them a family treasure worth sharing.
Being born in Germany to Holocaust survivors, I have hated bullying all my life and am currently working on FAMILY SECRETS: THE HOLOCAUST, to help introduce middle grade children to this tragic event as a boy tries to solve the mystery of what happened to his Grandfather's family. I'm also working on a handbook to help parents and teachers fight bullying. As a classroom teacher, I saw first-hand how bullying wastes time and hurts the victims, but also the bully, and their families. We all need to stop this epidemic.
Authors depend on their readers and I sincerely thank you for your support. A special thank you for those kind enough to add reviews. A few years ago, I got the greatest fan letter from a little boy thanking me for my ROCKHOUND detective series and ending with: "I know all authors are rich. Can I swim in your pool?" If I had one, you'd all be invited. I'm very grateful you enjoy my crazy stories.
