A lot of paranormal stories have characters who inherit powers. One day they learn about their supernatural family. The characters either embrace the news or try their best to deny it. In McDonald’s story, there’s a transference of power. So cool!
The characters in “Marked” were well-developed. My favorites were Hanna, Jared, and Will. Hanna, the target in this story, seemed mousy in the beginning. But once her life changes, the girl doesn’t back down from a challenge. She was aware of her fears, but she didn’t let them hold her back. Jared was the supportive neighborhood boy. He was the best friend with a little extra. Will was the super human from The Order. I loved his strength, his heart, and his willingness to do what’s right.
“Marked” has the potential for the dreaded love triangle. In this book, however, it could have easily been a love square. Fortunately, nothing developed. Everyone kept to their boundaries.
The villains in “Marked” were just plain hateful. Blondie/Jasper is a Fallen on a mission. He was sadistic in his torture. His prodigy (I can’t use the name without giving things away) is a person who is perfectly brainwashed by the Fallen.
I loved this story! I highly recommend it, and can’t wait to read the next one.
The story start, reminding me of the opening of "The City of Bones" (I LOVE The Mortal Instruments!!) and I thought, okay, I'll keep reading. And boy was I surprised. The club and someone dying is where the similarities end and TL McDonald's own story begins! The storyline progressed with lots of twists and turns and an ending that actually shocked me. Which left me wanting to read the next in the series! Can't wait!!
