Conniving Greek gods, horrifying demons, vengeful warriors, and true love clash in this sexy, fast-paced paranormal romance series launch. Cocktail waitress and bookseller Casey Simopolous leads a lonely life until the night she rescues a mysterious man from a pack of hideous monsters. The handsome stranger is the Argonaut Theron, a guardian of a realm inhabited by the descendants of Greek demigods, and Casey soon finds herself thrown into a dangerous romance amid secrets and prophecies that may hold the key to her own mysterious past and the salvation of Theron's besieged race. Naughton (Stolen Fury) occasionally stumbles in her narration, but she has a tremendous skill with steamy passion, dynamic characterization—especially of strong, multifaceted women whose friendships and family relationships play a crucial part in the story—and thrilling action. I will not recap the novel as others have already done so but I will state why I think this novel is a great beginning to a new series that I am now interested in.
World building is fantastic and descriptive - so much so that a reader can easily imagine the environment and surroundings.
Characters are belivable - not made so perfect that you want to gag and cannot relate to them.
Alpha males - I want the male characters to be Alphas - strong, protective, caring - not wimps.
Smooth reading - no glaring editing mistakes, sentences or paragraphs that you have to read over and over to understand
Plot line - original with twists and a smooth flow to it with NO GAPS
Heat factor - I want "Heat" between the hero & heroine
Stong Female character - not in strength so much but mentally - able to stand up for herself
A book that grips my attention and does not let go.
THIS NOVEL HAD ALL THE ABOVE AND MORE!
Despite what one reviewer stated, there is NO WAY THAT THIS NOVEL CAN BE READ IN AN HOUR not unless the reader is skipping whole chapters at a time! I am a speed reader and usually can and do read a book a night, this is a full length intense novel - not a light read. It is not a "feel good", "fluffy" read either - there are fights to survive, heart rending scenes, Heros that do have flaws. If you are not into paranormal - no, you will not like this book. If you are into "sweet" - no, you will not like this book.
I recommend that while readers need to be leery of 4 or 5 star reviews because there are too many "paid" reviewers out there (in books or money) that seem to have NEVER EVER gotten a hold of a bad book - before writing off a book with negative reviews - take the time to investigate all the rating and reviews for that particular reviewer whether 1 star or 5 star. Just as I did in this case - I found out that most of the negative reviewers gave low ratings to books that I already knew I liked and high ratings to books that I would NEVER be interested in.
I love Elisabeth Naughton. She seemed to have lived with the Greek Gods a long time ago, because every story she wrote made me rethink of my former classes at school about Greek mythology. I thought I knew all about Zeus and Hades and Hercules and Athena. I thought I already know about Jason and the Golden Fleece. But I was clearly mistaken because I really had no idea about the Argonauts. Now, Naughton had convinced me that these warriors had their own stories to tell, and I couldn't wait to meet them all.
Theron is like the antihero protagonist I can't help but take notice. There's something sinister about him that I like, which is weird. But when he unleashed his true power, I was surprised to stay transfixed by him. He and Casey rule the human world, the colony, the Olympus, the kingdom and most especially, the bedroom. Their sexual tension was killing me.
I would be needing a dozen pitcher of water if I would continue reading the next eight books in the series. Whew!
Typical romance theme. Boy falls for girl - girl falls for boy. Neither will admit their feelings and they make themselves miserable.
There is a good plot to the book, with Casey being the chosen one to save Argolea. We have demons, Argonauts (heroes from Greek mythology) and Gods. I enjoyed the story line and the characters. I liked watching the growth and change in Isadora.
This is book 1 in the series. Book 2 deals with Zander, an Argonaut who is cursed (or gifted depending on your point of view) with immortality.
Before I read this book, I looked over the reviews like I regularly do. One negative reviewer I read was upset because of "rape" by using mind control, there is no rape in this book. Another reviewer upset over too much sex, well we do enjoy these books for a reason but there is not a sex overload.
It starts off slow and keeps a steady slower pace than I usually like and there was too much angst, as well as internal dialog. The characters wide range of emotions were confusing, they would go from soft and loving to I hate your guts very quickly. It's a good story line and I enjoyed reading it. I will be getting the next book.
