Well, as the story progresses so does the intrigue, and we see several twists. In addition we learn that Reynor is having feelings for Beatrice, but because of his past, and her choices, he just doesn't trust his own judgment. The plot has conflict, and mounting tension, with some very colorful characters. The author portrayed the longing that each felt with such poignancy, and the description of emotion was terrific. It was such an entertaining ride!
I highly recommend this to romance readers. This is the first I have read from this author, and although it is a stand alone, it's the second in a series. Now I am definitely going to read the first book too.
Following the deaths of her Mother and Grandfather, Beatrice is alone. Her Grandfather received a letter from an old friend inviting them to visit.
Beatrice writes to accept the invitation, planning to tell Sir Henry her Grandfather passed away in the journey, hoping he will be gracious enough to take her in.
One there however she is mistaken for Sir Henry's Grandson Edwin's betrothed!
Traveling to Sir Henry's home Beatrice is attacked on the road by robbers.
Knight Raynor Le Roux comes to her rescue and brings her back to his own home.
He returns to find the estate in shambles and his older Brother Peter retreating into madness after the death of his wife.
Wanting to be of help in repayment for his help. Beatrice agrees to stay on and help Raynor get his home in order.
Even though she appreciates his help and finds him very attractive, fear of being used and abused by the kind stranger she tells him she is Betrothed to Sir Henry's son Edwin.
He's falling for her but knows she is betrothed, and as her trust in Raynor strengthens can she tell him the truth and give him her heart?
Can he help her and keep her at arms length when she is so near and always on his mind?
What will happen when her heroic Knight delivers her to her destination?
It was a great story that has you wondering how everything is going to work out for everyone in the end. I love a story with a quick start and twists and turns and Marked for Honor has both
Lady Beatrice endured the painful and tragic loss of her Father, whom she adored, at the age of 5. Caring for her Mother, who was in ill health and helping run a household was her job growing up, and it was a lonely, and isolated existence.
After the loss of her Mother, and Grandfather on the same day, she is faced with the stark reality, that she is alone in the world, aside from an elderly faithful servant. Taking a chance, she sets out on a journey to the home of a friend of her Grandfather, in the hope that he will provide her
with shelter and a job in his residence. Lady Beatrice is a brave soul, very resourceful and industrious. She was skilled at sewing, cooking, and cleaning; she reasoned that this would help her greatly.
It is on this journey, that our Hero meets our Heroine...Sir Raynor is on his way back to his home, when he crosses paths with Lady
Beatrice. Sir Raynor insists that he escort Lady Beatrice on to his home, as times were dangerous for travelers, so they journey
on. The deal is that once he has time to assess the situation at his home, he will escort her to meet her future husband. Fearing for
her safety, and unsure of what to do, Lady Beatrice made the decision to tell Sir Raynor that she was on her way to meet her Intended.
This book is very captivating, as you witness Lady Beatrice and Sir Raynor begin to care for each other...Lady Beatrice slowly begins
to regret her deception...but if Sir Raynor finds out the truth, will he turn away from her? For that, she knows, will surely break her
MARKED BY HONOR is a wonderful book, filled with tender moments, suspense, and a very interesting look at caste life - I really
enjoyed reading about the workings of a castle, and how so many people are involved in making things run smoothly.
Don't miss this excellent book!
Enter our hero. Yes, he was in love with his friend's wife. He acted with honor and never allowed himself to act on those feelings.
These two have a very horrific first meeting. They have quite a few misunderstandings and untruths to struggle through to their HEA.
(I read this book out of sequence, but did not feel as if I missed anything from the first, except the desire to read it and wait for Book 3.)
