This 2nd in the series is much more slow paced. A murder happens and then is ignored for almost half the book while other crimes ensue. All resolved in the end of course, but it certainly took a while.

Over the last few days I've finished the first two books of the Lady hard castle stories. I thought the mystery components were very good. The crimes appear random, the plethora of village suspects and unexpected twists prove the author's skill at weaving a good mystery. However, the best part of these stories is the relationship between Lady Hard castle and Flo her maid. Full of humor and warmth the strength of the relationship between the very complimentary pair made the books.

I think I will like the lead characters but there is a back story that is not told which I guess would explain a lot.
We are dropped in to a changing England and are just expected to go along with the role of the ladies maid / house keeper / kung foo fighter.
I wish that the ladies past was not so sketchy but maybe that will come in coming books. It was pleasant to read and left me curious about the next book.

I enjoyed this second book in the Lady Hardcastle series every bit as much as the first. She and her maid sidekick, Armstrong, are delightful as they play their parts as "Lady" and "maid," yet all the time sharing the bond of companionship, friendship and crime-solving. Very intelligent ladies, living during a time when not much was expected of females....certainly not that they would drive a car! Humor and solving crime wrapped into one story. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

What a terrific read. Mr. Kinsey is a jewel!! What a genre for a man to handle, with humor and characters so real, I have known people like them, strangely enough in this day and age. His books carry you back to the turn of the century and Lady Hardcstle and her wonderful friend/companion with her unknown talents. What a joy. Thank you.

This book is lots of fun - almost a satire. I enjoyed the first book so much, I bought this second book in the series, and I will buy the third as soon as it is published. I like the Audible version, so I can do other things while it plays. Sometimes I use headphones to listen while my husband watches sports on TV. Family togetherness!

A well educated, eccentric Lady and her surprisingly capable maid make a great mystery-solving duo! The first Lady Hardcastle mystery, A Quiet Life in the Country, was a wonderful introduction to these two, and I was delighted to discover that the second book was just as much fun as the first!
If you enjoy well-crafted mysteries with interesting characters and a dose of humor, give Lady Hardcastle a try!

Yet another installment of adventure and mystery with these interesting ladies. Very gradually, the author develops the story of their mysterious past with each new tale. And, the mysteries they encounter are satisfactorily resolved amidst an assortment of entertaining characters and action! Can't wait to read the next.

I love these Lady Hardcastle mysteries. I read from spy thrillers to historic fiction, and in between these are the loveliest books. Easy to read, witty, charming, etc. I love the two main characters as they are both quite clever. Highly recommend. Anxiously awaiting book no. 3, and hope there's more to follow.

This is another worthy addition to the Hardcastle mystery series. Our heroines are clever, resourceful and witty. A number of unrelated clues and red herrings are integrated into a satisfying whodunit with the requisite number of colorful village characters.
I look forward to the third book in this series.
