I am one of those in between potential hopeful future Kindle authors. Over two years I was felled temporarily with a hematological cancer, my second bout with cancer in less than 10 years and like many cancer patients it 'got me to thinking.' I had been sitting on a nearly finished manuscpript in Family Therapy for new trainees in psychiatry, psychology and clinical social work, for over 15 years. I have been a workaholic phyisican/psychiatrist with several children, adopted as well and a wife with M.S. So writing took a back seat in my life in the late 1980's and I painfully had to consciously put it aside and give up on it. That sad resigned decision was capped off by one of the major publishers being bought out when the M&A's the world of large book publishers started and the company that was interested in publishing my introductory training book in family therapy abruptly cut off all consideration and I learned that only blockbuster sellers were to be the fodder for the book publishers, a theme that became widely recognized in the last several years. Then the Kindle and other eReaders and the ecological vast collections of ebooks appeared. I bought an early Kindle and Nook and read a lot during my cancer treatment months and recovery and realized this was my avenue to resurrecting my writing hopes. I had long ago learned that pursuits outside my working career had to have as little to do with medicine and psychiatry as possible. I was realistic that my beloved book on Family Therapy was not the thing to start with and identified three subjects that were lacking in the ebook world, and that I could write. I started buying and reading several ebooks a month and educating myself at a rapid pace on the mechanics of ebook writing, formating and then I hit what was foreign in ickky to my cautious conservative quiet personality as a therapist: MARKETING. I read a number of very bad ebooks on marketing that only increased the distaste in my writing 'mouth' for this skill, and felt they were either worthless fluff pieces or sounded like lessons on how to be a shameless carnival barker.
Then I I tried Mike McCann's book, purchased and downloaded it but still had to wait for big life issues to settle further before I could delve into as two of my writing projects took shape and came closer to time to submit them and start marketing-whatever that was. I finally started reading his book and overcome my initial still active prejudice toward sales and marketing types, the world of tv advertising and all that and vowed to give his book a fair read and thorough consideration. Suddenly I found myself realizing this his simply pithy introductory statements were heavily embedded with very subtle insights and a different kind of 'social' science I had had no appreciation for. As I read further I was drawn into his world of thinking and approach to the abstract yet practical and necessary tools of marketing one's ebook. I even began doing the 'exercizes' of thinking through steps and approaches involved in needs assessment of scoping out one's market for whatever kind of ebook one had written and how to market it. I was gratefully shocked that his promise in his title of "300 resources' all related to marketing were specific, well thought out and made complete sense to me.
Now granted I have not read the universe of ebook marketing offerings there seem to be teeming in the pools of the Amazon book pools, but the few I have read are far outclassed and have so little useful throught provoking one liners and concentrated paragraphs that have ushered me into now understanding more or less what marketing really is, the kinds of marketing as it pertains to ebooks and which approaches I am sure to use.
One last comment in this lenghty review is that Mr. McCann's book is quite forthright in taking on the not so kind too authors approaches in pricing, i.e., the court fights over the "agency model" which has been the subject of a good three years of media coverage, lawsuits, fights among the collossi of Amazon, Apple and the Big Six book publishers that I HAVE read a lot about and still not understood. He has explained this more clearly than all the blog reviews and business magazines I have pored through to make sense of it all so at my micro-single author level, would make the best possible decision for my modest writing and publishing efforts to come. So this book portrayed this rapidly evolving shifting sands publishing landscape impartially and bluntly and certainly was not a shill for Amazon, which I take to be another sign of the merit of this book.
And now you have a feel for why this beginning author recommends this book to one and all looking at entering the vast and Brave New Exciting World of Individual Author Driven book Publishing which is revolutionizing anything connecting with books, periodicals, business, communication and education.

Editorial Reviews
From the Author
"How to Market Your EBooks" has been revealing and fun to write because there is SO much turmoil now (March 2012) in the publishing industry.
Many traditional publishers are trying hard to figure out how to "fit in" this relatively new avenue of the book trade (eBooks). Many veterans in publishing are talking about this-and-that relative to writing and marketing eBooks...much of which is simple guesswork now.
My prediction is that the next two years will see the "dust settle" on book formats. Publishers know little about which directions to follow for production and marketing now. Readers are seeing all kinds of new formats and trying to find out which formats they like. Within two years, buying statistics should "settle" into telling a story from which publishers can make clear decisions.
In the meantime, I've had fun learning from eBook authors who are leading the way. All this research, combined with my background in marketing, conveys to readers of "How to Market Your Ebooks" valuable case studies and newly minted proven techniques for increasing eBook sales.

I was not really impressed with this book at all. based on the title: How to Market Your EBooks, Over 300 Resources to Help Authors Sell EBooks" I expected a book that actually had 300 sources to help you market. That's not what this book is.
Many of the sources revolve around the details of the book such as 'where to get it published' 'where to get the cover designed' etc. While I'm willing to admit that these are resources too, they are NOT the resources I expected based on the title.
The press release section was decent. The video section was informative, but sparse.
If the book was priced higher than $2.99, I would have given it a much lower rating.

The section titled Marketing in the Digital World with its "59 EBook marketing tips" was enough to make the whole book well worth the read. I've written several books, all self-published and one a genuine best-seller, so I was a little surprised that I found 14 tips among the 59 that promise to be mighty helpful. And I predict most readers with an ebook to sell will find even more of value between these covers, just as I did.
