Unfortunately, many of these folks have gone into the process with the glamorized, outdated view of what it means to be an author. They don't understand the real work of marketing and selling that is necessary to even make a small amount in sales for most products, books included.
This short book gives at least one glimpse into the reality of being an author today through real figures from real marketing campaigns. If you are looking for data to support a dream of writing a book and moving to an island to write your next one, this information will probably be disappointing. However, if you want to get an idea of what results you can realistically expect for honest effort, both good and bad, pick up this book. Your mileage may vary as they say, but the more you know in all parts of the writing and publishing process the better your experience will be overall.
Because the steps and results of each campaign are laid out by item, they can be compared with each other. While I think it pays to experiments with any method, it's also prudent to note which works more consistently than others - and use them.
Following the seven case studies is the rulebook - reminders of certain things never to slip up or forget. A useful section that shouldn't be skipped.
I've read several of their books that help other writers reach readers, and each one has so much valuable information I wish I could download it all into my brain. I can't seem to make enough notes to remind me to do this and try that. The trick is to keep Shelly's books handy and put what they advise into practice. Many links to help are provided.
Their best advice for me is to plan, schedule and begin the marketing program before a book is released. For instance, gather reviews, arrange and plan blog tours, decide on the book's important Amazon categories, and plan pricing and free KDP Select days.
I should add because of their advice, my marketing should now be delivered in a manner that will strike a responsive chord in readers at the point of purchase.
Now, if one of them will just write a book on 7 Ways to Find Time to Market Effectively.
Note: I was provided this book by Body and Soul Publishing in exchange for my review.
This one is different in the sense that is gives actual methods used and, more importantly, the results of those campaigns.
This does not mean that your marketing campaigns will give the same or even similar results. The beauty of this book is the many different ideas that Shelley uses.
The main point is that you have to run your own campaigns and then monitor the results closely to see what works for you and your book and what doesn't. If you don't know where to start, or have limited ideas, this is the book for you.
One hour spent with this book will not only save you tons of time in planning and carrying out your own book marketing project, it will actually make you money! Shelley is fast becoming the only person I will listen to when it comes to book marketing advice.
I was provided this book by Body and Soul Publishing in exchange for my review and I'm very glad they asked.
