Great book, and priced right. I setup corporations as serve as a senior business consultant for attorneys and individuals alike, and each year but the NOLO and Entrepreneur publications to stay updated and for additional insider information. I find them easy to understand, and their information reliable. Laws, and procedures change, so it's important to update these books regularly.

Some excellent ideas and examples of ways to increase your business without spending money. Got a bit boring about two thirds of the way through as it gave too many examples of ideas that were similar. I do think it was well worth the price and the time it took to read.

The assessments by Midwest Book Review (August 10, 2008) and Pat (September 13, 2012) are both correct, particularly with Midwest stating how extensive this book is for practical use by a small business owner and Pat stating that there are numerous examples used in this book.Throughout the book and an appendix, checklists and worksheets are provided for the reader.

I'd like to give it 4.5 stars, as it is definitely worth spending some time reviewing.

Here are a few quotes worth noting:

On designing and implementing your marketing plan: "A marketing plan for your business should include 3 basic elements. The first is the statement describing your business...(The second is) the who of your action plan...a list of the people you already know who are in good position to recommend your business to their friends and acquaintances. Of course, this list includes a list of your customers...(The third is) the what of your action plan...the list of marketing actions and events that will stimulate the people on your list to actually make recommendations."

On customer purchasing: "Customers want to know how to use your goods and services efficiently. The more honest, easy to understand information and handholding you provide, the more likely they are to purchase.

On return policies when a customer is disapponinted: "Although recourse is a potentially difficult and unpleasant topic, it is at the heart of long term business health because it protects the supportive customers who make personal recommendations. Relatively small efforts, well thought out from the customer's point of view, cost very little and do much in protecting our total investment in public trust. In fact, when you promptly and attentively make sure the customer is treated right, you can gain their loyalty."

On using the web: "Make your home page simple so that it downloads quickly; 60% of web surfers bail from a site in 6 seconds...In designing your home page keep in mind that a prospect delivered there may be looking for something that is another one of the pages on your site. The home page should therefore explain, indicate, or illustrate what other material is available on your site. In effect, your home page is a table of contents for the rest of your website...For marketing purposes, company blogs can be extremely effective in providing expertise and up to date information to an interactive base of customers...In engineering and product development, a company blog can be particularly useful because customer-users of a new product can use the company's blog to describe their product usage experience to the company developers...Expert blogs play an important role in attracting new customers and maintaining involvement with interested customers. Bloggers cross reference each other, providing a powerful and credible voice in the market for your business...A blog is high on the list of public forums for experts."

Have previous edition and it had a lot of simple practical ideas. Bought the next edition as kindle format and regretted it right away. Really poor conversion to Kindle format really hard to use. Will be purchasing hard copy.

Paid advertising can often be the most expensive and least effective method of marketing goods and services to the public. Now in a significantly updated and expanded sixth edition, "Marketing Without Advertising: Easy Ways To Build A Business Your Customers Will Love & Recommend" by the team of Michael Phillips and Salli Rasberry (both of whom are recognized pioneers in 'values-based' business models) is a thoroughly 'user friendly' and practical instruction manual for high-impact, low-cost marketing strategies that offer a wealth of tips and techniques for developing repeat customers, creating word-of-mouth publicity, transforming dissatisfied customers into a loyal clientele, planning and executing low-cost marketing events, utilizing the Internet and the World Wide Web, attracting media attention, and a whole lot more. Focusing on such essential issues as the physical appearance of the business, pricing, customer education, and marketing plan design, "Marketing Without Advertising" can be considered to be a complete, comprehensive, and invaluable instructional that will enable even the most novice entrepreneur and business manager to succeed in today's volatile marketplace and competitive economic environment no matter what the product or service they are seeking to promote.

Stupid book, with terrible principals. In my opinion this was a big waste of my money. As a professional marketer, I don't recommend this book.
