Really, in a surprising way, Joe Peacock's writing becomes soft, touching, revealing, vulnerable - there's a personal angle to this, beyond "Joe as female cyborg", but some insight into his open, jagged, huge heart. It caught me off guard, added a certain tone and color to the story overall, presenting how this is more than futuristic near-fi, but an exposition of the personal told in a cyber-cipher. Even when hurtling back into breaking bones and twisted cables, it sticks with you, and you begin to wonder what did Ms Peacock fight to get here.
