4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 51 ratings

Escape through a maze of deception, betrayal, and death is the key to survival for thirteen rebellious colonies that dare to fight tyranny and win their independence. Powerful forces seek to assassinate General George Washington as the unstoppable British fleet sails into New York Harbor. The Epic Order of the Seven must identify and stop the assassin, or the epic Battle of New York will be over before it even begins. The Declaration of Independence rallies patriots to tear down the statue of King George III, but will its words be worth dying for? The Howe Brothers chase Washington and his dwindling Continental Army across New Jersey until he learns how to outfox them and lives to fight another day at Trenton and Princeton. The animal team knows those small victories won’t be enough to win a war and must convince France to covertly join the fight. They must help France’s wealthy Marquis de Lafayette sail for America to fight alongside
Washington, but first he must escape King Louis XVI who has other plans for the reluctant courtier.
The Marquis, the Escape, and the Fox is the third book in Jenny L. Cote’s Epic Revolutionary Saga.

Award-winning author and speaker Jenny L. Cote, who developed an early passion for God, history, and young people, beautifully blends these three passions in her two fantasy fiction series, The Amazing Tales of Max and Liz® and Epic Order of the Seven®. Likened to C. S. Lewis by readers and book reviewers alike, she speaks on creative writing to schools, universities and conferences around the world. Jenny has a passion for making history fun for kids of all ages, instilling in them a desire to discover their part in HIStory. Her love for research has taken her to most Revolutionary sites in the U.S., to London (with unprecedented access to Handel House Museum to write in Handel’s composing room), Oxford (to stay in the home of C. S. Lewis, ‘the Kilns’, and interview Lewis’ secretary, Walter Hooper at the Inklings’ famed The Eagle and Child Pub), Paris, Normandy, Rome, Israel, and Egypt. She partnered with the National Park Service to produce Epic Patriot Camp, a summer writing camp at Revolutionary parks to excite kids about history, research and writing. Jenny’s books are available online and in stores around the world, as well as in multiple e-book formats. Jenny holds two marketing degrees from the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. A Virginia native, Jenny now lives in Roswell, Georgia.

The Amazing Tales of Max and Liz® is a two-book prequel series that begins the adventures of brave Scottie dog Max and brilliant French cat Liz. Book One: The Ark, the Reed, and the Fire Cloud introduces Max and Liz, who meet on the way to the Ark and foil a plot by a stowaway who is out to kill Noah and stop his mission. Book Two: The Dreamer, the Schemer, and the Robe brings Max, Liz, and friends to work behind the scenes in the life of Joseph in the land of Egypt. The Epic Order of the Seven® series picks up where the Max and Liz series left off. Book One: The Prophet, the Shepherd, and the Star gives Max, Liz, and the gang their most important mission yet: preparing for the birth of the promised Messiah. Their seven-hundred–year mission takes them to the lives of Isaiah, Daniel, and those in the Christmas story. Book Two: The Roman, the Twelve, and the King unfolds the childhood, ministry and passion of Jesus Christ with a twist – his story is told within the story of George F. Handel composing Messiah. Book Three: The Wind, the Road, and the Way covers Acts 1-18 and Paul’s first two missionary journeys. Book Four: The Fire, the Revelation, and the Fall concludes the story of Acts to the fall of Rome, showing the miraculous birth of the church amidst persecution by the Roman Empire.

The Epic Revolutionary Saga

Book one: The Voice, the Revolution, and the Key (2017) 1743-March 1775: covers events from the year 1743 up through the eve of the Revolution in March 1775.

Book two: The Declaration, the Sword, and the Spy (2020) March 1775-July 1776: covers events from Lexington and Concord through the Declaration of Independence.

Book three: The Marquis, the Escape, and the Fox (2023) April 1776-April 1777: covers events from the Battle of New York with the arrival of British forces through the escape of Marquis de Lafayette from France.

Book four: The Blood, the Turn and the Prize (2025) April 1777-October 1781: covers the end of the northern campaign and the southern campaign through Victory at Yorktown.

Book five: The Rise, the Fall and the Jewel (2027) October 1781-1865): covers the rise of the United States of America and the formation of the government through the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Concludes the Revolutionary Saga into the nineteenth century with liberty and justice for all.

The World War Two Saga will feature C.S. Lewis. Jenny’s books have been developed into audiobooks, VBS curriculum (Heroes of HIStory) with animation by Magnetic Dreams in Nashville, TN, and original music by Marco Randazzo. Future plans include an animated TV/DVD series, feature film adaptation, and school curriculum. Learn more about Jenny and her books at the Jenny L. Cote Has Done It AGAIN!!!
If you have read my reviews of Jenny Cote's first two books in this series ("The Voice, The Revolution, & The Key" and "The Declaration, The Sword, & The Spy" - just in case "The Marquis" is your first introduction to her American Revolution series ;) ), you will know I am not only a fan of history and lifelong student, you know I am a fan of Jenny Cote and her writing!!Well.... she has done it AGAIN!!! In "The Marquis, The Escape, & The Fox", Cote continues to bring her main characters to life through their trials, tribulations, and successes! All of the events are brought together with the assistance of the Epic Order of the Seven, along with a few other animal assistants along the way. Once again, much I have learned in the past has been forgotten and Jenny causes me to look up events, and people whom I have never heard of as well as the familiar names of people, events, and places.Once again, I refuse to give away parts of the book... I do not do spoilers and I refuse to read reviews that give things away... I leave that to YOU the reader to make up your mind about it!!If you have read and enjoyed the first two, BUY this one!! OR if you have read any of her previous works, start this series and HOLD ON!!The only downside to this is now, we have to wait until the fourth one comes out... BUT that does NOT effect my scoring this with FIVE STARS!!Vive le Marquis!! Vive le Jenny!!

Absolutely loved reading her other series to my girls, but Jenny L. Cote takes the cake with this book. Packed full of revolutionary history! Despite having some bias, because the Marquis de Lafayette is a central character…it’s my personal favorite. my daughters absolutely love Max the little terrier back again (we’re dog people!) & for some reason when Al burps uncontrollable laughter ensues. Happy to have a book series that I can read with, and to my kids, has great historical info, rich with vocabulary for my 7 year old..and still this much fun. Brilliant read.

My granddaughter started this series when she was 9. She began reading them and could not put them down. I borrowed the first from her and read it. This is a phenomenal series. It blends accurate world history with the story of our God and His people. The author uses a group of animals as the main characters of the book and tells the stories through them. I’ve now read the first two books and cannot wait to read the next!!

Jenny L. Cote’s latest masterpiece is my favorite of the book series so far! She masterfully weaves several threads of story into one book, resulting in a EPIC read. This book engages the heart, soul and mind, and points the reader to Christ. Like I said, it is a masterpiece! I can’t recommend this book enough!

The book is amazing and my daughter was so excited to get it! She loves all Jenny’s books and she named our two rescue Westies after two of her characters. Jack and Kate. 💙🧡

I'm so thankful I finally had the opportunity to read this fantastic book. I ordered it the second it was available but had to get through other reading before this one. And, as expected, another gem of a story from Jenny Cote! You know it is going to be a great story, loaded to the brim with FACTS just after glancing at the jaw dropping length of the bibliography!! Jenny has the most amazing way of traveling with us through history and letting us connect with REAL heroes and characters from the past that is unique to anything I have ever read!! And of course with the most adorable cast of animals to help along the way and add humor, spiritual insights, and heart all along the way, these books become the perfect stories to share with the whole family! If I could compare reading this book or any of Jenny's books to eating a meal, here's how I would do it. With many books aimed at children, you get fast food style writing, advertised as cute and appealing stories that are really full of nonsense and shallow, leaving you not feeling satisfied after reading. But reading Jenny Cote's books is like attending a carefully selected gourmet feast where every course is both beautiful and completely satisfying! It hits every element just perfectly and when you are done reading you know you were in the presence of excellency! As always, I can't wait for the next book that Jenny will write, as it is always such a joy to learn truth, grow in understanding, and take amazing adventures all throughout History writren in both entertaining and enlightening ways! An absolute delight in every way!

Jenny’s book presents little known Revolutionary War events using a refreshing new approach. It blends accurate history, some fill in the blanks fiction, and some almost religious fantasy to present other little known historic Revolutionary War events in a very clear and concise manner. The non-historic parts help bridge over unnecessary details, leaving the accurate historic details laid out in a logical and easy to understand read. The fantasy part is used to explain the just plain “good luck” (Devine Providence?) the Patriots experienced. This is rolled into the other just plain “good luck” of a guy named Lafayette simply sticking his nose into our business! You can’t believe it unless it was true. The book is not a boring scholarly work, though you learn just as much as you anxiously turn the pages. This book in the series ends early in the Revolutionary War. I’m looking forward to see where history goes from here in Jenny’s unique way of presenting it.
