The 10 guiding principles are a clever concept, and they are well chosen. The surprise for me is that many can be easily used for personal, career or business development.
There are several different threads of information woven through the book to illustrate and support the guiding principles. In addition to the author’s explanation and advice relating to each principal, the reader is given a valuable insight into the author’s own marriage to his wife Jyotsna with examples of what works well for them. Girish also presents a number of interesting client case studies to illustrate useful points. There are action plans to encourage readers to start using the principles. Almost as an extra bonus the reader is presented with an interview with a number of couples to further round out the discussion on each principle. I see the book as being a real gift to those seeking to enhance a relationships or marriage. I enjoyed it. I recommend it.
Marriage does take effort and can be easy to take for granted. Incorporating simple idaes such as showing gratitude and appreciation, taking responsibility and allowing the need for personal space are things that we know, but how often do we do or show? Also included is a relationship self anaysis and opportunities to learn more through counseling.
This is a book that can be read many times as it is a good refresher on how to have a strong and beautiful marriage.
If you're want to take your marriage to a new and inspired level of living then you will find the ten guiding principles contained in this book very enlightening. The book helps you identify areas specific to your relationship that need attention and then provides you with the tools to address these.
The information that Girish Kumar provides is also not just theory based. His wisdom comes firstly from creating and nurturing his own happy marriage. In addition running his own relationship coaching company has afforded him the opportunity to work with many couples who have sought his expertise in re-empowering their relationships.
You'll probably not be surprised by many of the principles covered, like having gratitude and appreciation for your spouse (Principle 1) and giving personal space to your spouse (Principle 4). These are things most of us will agree are important but how many of us actually practise these? What I also liked about this book were the interviews with ten people who have been leading inspiring married lives. This includes an interview with Girish's wife, Jyotsna.
I can recommend this book to anybody who wants to know how to build a marriage they can be proud of.
I loved that each chapter offers the principle, the reasons why it's important, relevant examples, an exercise to apply the knowledge acquired by reading it, and a brief interview of a married person, living, and applying the principle presented. The new perspectives of the interviewees have added depth into each principle.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about getting married - for a better understanding of the implications of such a complex relationship, and to anyone who is already married, and would like to achieve more harmony, understanding, and happiness in their relationship!
