I really appreciate the real life examples given in this book; that the authors are firmly grounded in the word of God; and that they have great worksheets in the appendix to really get the reader to try to actively solve their problems. One of the best features are the prayer "helpers" inserted at the end of each chapter to get the reader to start praying effectively about their situation.
Now I'm just praying that my friend will actually read it! (You can pray too!)
Meanwhile, even though I am blessed to have a wonderful marriage, this book actually still help me quite a bit. I began to see areas in my life where I had hardened my heart against OTHER people- not only my husband. I prayed though it and feel a whole new freedom in a few different relationships.
I believe God can work miracles in anyone's heart if they are only willing to LET GOD DO IT! This book really lays out how to let God do what He does best.
I really don't think you can go wrong with this book.
This book is for hurting people in marriages. Prior to this book, I read Dr. Kevin Leman's book called Have A New Husband By Friday, and there is no comparison. Leman's book is a good book for essentially decent marriages where there are frustrations between the sexes due to a lack of understanding...and he handles them in his warm, wise and witty way...but Marriage Miracle addresses the truly deep hurts in marriages. It's serious, biblical and direct. That being said, neither is it harsh. It is written with a great deal of love and compassion for hurting married couples. I found it to be a centered book, meaning it doesn't veer towards favoring husbands or wives. We all, no matter what sex we are, are capable of inflicting hurt...and being inflicted by hurt. Men are not immune.
In my opinion, this is a book for someone pretty serious about their walk with God. You have to be at that point, where you are ready to hear what God says and why it matters. The author(s) speak of a hardening of the heart or at least the stopping of growth of the heart, long before marriage vows are ever taken. The authors don't leave you wondering where exactly your heart is at either, they give you questions/tests in the back of the book, that you can answer and score and use to really see where YOUR heart lies...so the knowledge shared in the book can make sense for YOUR marriage.
I found this book to be encouraging for marriages that have fallen apart, that are just on the brink of falling part, or for marriages where silence and hopelessness have just seeped in and you're going through the motions of day to day. There is hope and God is your source for the healing of your marriage.
Although this book does address deep hurts in marriages, it also addresses how to create a deeper, more intimate marriage for those maybe not on the brink of marriage disaster, but who wonder what to do with that feeling, "is this all there is?"...again the answer is God is the source.
God wants your marriage to work and gives you the tools, and this book explains why you might want to put down the tools you've been using with each other, and pick up his.
Just my two cents. Hope it helps.
