About the Author
Darlene D. Collier is the co-author of Married to Sin, a memoir about her life; she is a native of Heidelberg, Mississippi, and a long time resident of Brandon, Mississippi. She was married to the late Henry Lee Collier for nearly four decades; she is the mother of six, a retired healthcare professional, and the former spokesperson and founder of Citizens Against the Rebel Flag Hanging in Public Places. This organization copyrighted the first rebel flag protest t-shirt in U.S. history, and produced a historical U.S. 1860-1861 Map, which is a placemat and a learning resource for people of all ages. Collier is the general partner and co-founder of Mose Dantzler Press mosedpress.com which published her memoir and the Spanish edition "Casada al Pecado". Meredith Coleman McGee is the co-author of "Married to Sin" and the Spanish translation of the memoir: "Casada al Pacado." She is the author of "Nashida: Visits the Smith Robertson Museum," "Nashida: Visits the Mississippi State Capitol," "Odyssey," a collection of her poems and other writings, and the author of a biography "James Meredith: Warrior and the America that created him" about her uncle Civil Rights icon James H. Meredith. She was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. She is the wife of William E. McGee, Jr., a mother, and a professional writer for Typing Solutions Résumés & Etc typingsolutions.biz. In the book MARRIED TO SIN author Darlene Collier shows us what happens when those voices are not heeded and we have to live through challenges and difficulties like few would be able to imagine.
This book spoke to me on many levels. One is that I know Darlene, but had no idea what she was going through in her life with her husband and her children. Another thing that the book tells us is how Darlene Collier came to be the person she is today. We learn about her upbringing, how it influences the decisions she had made and then how she is able to learn the importance of trusting herself, even in difficult times.
Another great lesson that we can see in Darlene's book is that we have to be willing to acknowledge our mistakes but not dwell on them. There is a time and place to realize where we have erred, but we can't move forward if we stay in that space. Darlene Collier has learned how to do just htat, and through the assistance of Meredith C. McGee she has been able to deliver a powerful book.
This is one of those reads that will have you racing through the pages trying to see what happens next. MARRIED TO SIN shows what we can learn to turn the page on the past and live a life of purpose in the present and future.
