So what if he's a bit older and usually regards a human female as dinner, not a dinner date? Yes, Roman Draganesti is a vampire, but a vampire who lost one of his fangs sinking his teeth into something he shouldn't have. Now he has one night to find a dentist before his natural healing abilities close the wound, leaving him a lop–sided eater for all eternity.
Things aren't going well for Shanna Whelan either...After witnessing a gruesome murder by the Russian mafia, she's next on their hit list. And her career as a dentist appears to be on a downward spiral because she's afraid of blood. When Roman rescues her from an assassination attempt, she wonders if she's found the one man who can keep her alive. Though the attraction between them is immediate and hot, can Shanna conquer her fear of blood to fix Roman's fang? And if she does, what will prevent Roman from using his fangs on her...

About the author

Kerrelyn Sparks apparently has issues with reality. After writing more than a dozen books about vampires, she has now completely gone off the deep end and wound up on another planet. But how thrilling that she can share this magical new world with her readers! Although she is best known (so far) for the Love at Stake series, which has hit as high as number 5 on the New York Times list and 22 on the USA Today list, she hopes her readers will love The Embraced as much as they did her merry band of vamps and shifters. To learn more about her paranormal, historical, and upcoming out-of-this-world fantasy romances, please visit Kerrelyn on Facebook, Twitter, or her website at www.kerrelynsparks.com.

I can’t think of anything that needs changing in the story. Of course the story is fictional, but if vampires were real and had the same personalities that they had while living, everything in the story is reasonable:) I don’t like to tell the story in a review. That takes away the pleasure of reading the book. I will tell you that it contains every emotion. It is a comedy that has you laughing. It is suspenseful and has you biting your nails. It is a love story that takes you through all the emotions of a love that Shanna did not think would have a chance. It took you through Roman’s heart break with his fear of losing her. His fear that she might hate him enough to kill him. It included friendships between a couple of mortals and vampires that were touching. I loved this story.
Roman is the founder of Romantech & the company makes synthetic blood for not only humans but vampires too. He also makes different flavors of the synthetic blood to cater to the vampires especially those who miss eating or drinking chocolate. One night as his fellow vampires who also work for Romantech had him try one of their experiments he loses a gang.
Shanna is in the Witness Protection Program after witnessing a murder spree in a store; but she still had the same profession & it's that of a Dentist. The night she was working at an all night dentistry she meets Roman when he comes in to get his gang put back in. That is also the night that her cover was blown.
They both were immediately attracted to each other but we're fighting it especially as they were trying to hide her from the hit men.
This book to me had lots of action, men in kilts, vampires, had a good vs bad plot & a HEA. I will also be reading the next book in this series as this is another series particularly this book in fact that has been on my mind lately. I had previously read some of the books in this series but not all; so, I also need a refresher in this series. I had also not previously written a review on this book &/or series which I now plan to do.

From the opening scenes where Roman Draganesti (a genius vampire scientist and inventor of artificial blood) has a fang fall out and goes in search of a 24 hour dentist, you can tell this this story doesn't take itself too seriously.
A 24 hour vampire TV channel - The Digital Vampire Network whose catch phrase is "It's always nighttime somewhere"
A CIA "Stake-Out Team" of vampire hunters.
An army of Scottish Highlander vampires all in kilts.
A French vampire fashion designer.
And Shanna, a very confused female dentist on the run from the Russian Mafia who finds herself falling in love with a vampire.
This book really was hugely enjoyable. The strong storyline, brilliant characters and a large helping of humour kept me turning the pages right to the end.
Presentation on the Kindle is absolutely first class. Formatting, chapter and paragraph breaks are perfect and there is an active table of contents. The book cover art is also included and looks really very good in black and white.
As I said, vampire books have never been my thing, humorous books don't often hit my funny-bone and I would usually run a mile from a romance novel, but this book succeeds on all counts!
Overall - 5 stars and highly recommended!
The other main annoyance was the woeful attempt at writing a Scottish accent for the Highlander guards. This would be laughable if it wasn't so excruciatingly bad. It's as though the only Scots accent that the writer has ever heard is that of Groundskeeper Willie in The Simpsons. Perhaps inevitably, that's exactly who they looked like in my imagination. I couldn't take them seriously at all.
I would say that the storyline is OK but not sparkling, and the writing is fairly competent; but there's too much vamp fiction around at the moment and this just doesn't stand out as being anything special - it's mildly entertaining at best. The plot isn't particularly fast-moving and feels like it's being overly stretched out to fill the book. The characters struggle to be more than two-dimensional. The main 'good guy' vamp was potentially quite an interesting character, apart from his Christian angst. The 'bad guy' vamp was very stereotypical; his only interesting character trait was a tendency to crack his neck bones from time to time. The heroine at least was a bit feisty, but I mean... a dentist with a fear of blood? Really?
Sorry, but the stakes are pretty high in this field of fiction just now (pardon the pun). This just about manages to rise above 'mediocre', but no further. Must try harder.
The characters of Shanna (blood phobic dentist in the Witness Protection Programme, hiding from the mob) and Roman (wealthy vampire businessman who specialises in the manufacture of synthetic blood products) are appealing enough. The dialogue is fine. The storyline is interesting enough too- Roman is in need of a dentist, having broken one of his fangs. He chooses Shanna and turns up in the nick of time, just as the mob are closing in on her. He rescues her and tries to keep her safe. Their relationship develops into something more but Shanna is unaware of what Roman is.
So, if all these things are okay, why am I not raving about this book? I think the crux of the problem is that there isn't really enough heat or tension between the characters, so the romance angle is a bit lacking. The plot is mildy amusing but not actually funny. It takes far too long for Shanna to properly clue into the fact that Roman is a vampire and I personally find all that a bit boring. With series like Sookie Stackhouse, Broken Heart and Queen Betsy where the vamp stuff is already out in the open to at least those that count, the big build up to the discovery that someone is a vampire seems terribly passe now.
So, it won't be a bad decision to read this book, if it has caught your eye, but don't be surprised if you are a bit underwhelmed.
Smut? Yup, got that too!
