Lovely slow burn story

Ashley is a small town florist, whose love life is non existent. Sasha is the local Baker who has the same problem as Ashley. They're both married to their businesses. They've been friends for years, with Ashley going over to the bakery every day at 3 to get treats for herself and her worker.
They have to work together when they are tapped to work the town's 1st lesbian wedding.
Sasha is pansexual, and Ashley is a closeted lesbian. And this is a beautiful slow burn story. Jae has weaved a wonderful story. 5 stars!

Wonderful book # 2, Not the Marrying Kind, in the Fair Oaks series. The attraction of cat and mouse game (using the term loosely, here) between the MC’s Sasha and Ashley are attractive, endearing, and sometimes painful. Ashley, the florist, convinced she needs to keep herself a closeted lesbian and buttoned-down for two important reasons: family and her business. That’s a real thing in life, and Jae did it justice by shining a bright light on it. Then, Sasha, who goes about life happy, joyous, and open as if everyone already knows she’s gay. The contrast between the two couldn’t be more confounded.
Ashley, the florist, and Sasha, the pastry baker, at times, blended very well together and made me anxious when pulled apart. I really enjoyed how these two characters interacted with the surrounding supporting cast of past and present individuals; who helped shore them up with encouragement, or those who tried to keep the status quo of this small community-Fair Oaks. Is there a book #3?…need to know if they can turn it around and be The Marrying Kind. 
Buyer beware: You’re gonna love this story!
The only con was the repetition of Ashley’s reasons for fear of coming out as a lesbian. Could the same exact words as reasons have been worded in such a way so as to not be so repetitive? That Ashley was so frightened of coming out because of possible family rejection and how it might cripple, the self-owned business was made abundantly clear early on in the story. Repeatedly said in those exact words got a bit tiresome to me. But, that was just a slight distraction. IMO
Well written/well edited. Highly Recommend!

Not the Marrying Kind by Jae is a wonderfully satisfying follow-up to one of the most romantic books I've ever "read" (listened to), Perfect Rhythm. To get the most out of Marrying Kind, I recommend you listen to Rhythm first. Rhythm begins when hugely successful out lesbian pop star Jenna "Leo" Blake goes back to her home town of Fair Oaks, MO after a good many years to see her ailing father. There, she meets his caretaker, Holly - someone she knew as a child - now all grown up, caring, confident, beautiful and not altogether impressed with her. Holly is asexual and their story focuses on what happens when Leo and Holly develop feelings for one another.
Marrying Kind picks up shortly after the first one ends and focuses on the story of the very closeted town florist, Ashley, and Sasha, a woman who owns and runs the bakery. Both women's lives revolve around their work and neither has time for a relationship. But when a huge event in town forces the two to work closely together over an extended period, will their walls come down? Coming out isn't always easy and sometimes comes at huge personal risk. Will Ashley - who is in her 30s - finally decide that her happiness is worth possibly losing her parents and business over? Can Sasha stop herself from falling in love with Ashley, knowing she could be in for heartbreak?
Both stories are absolutely swoon-worthy, and melted this die-hard romantic's heart. They are also both narrated by the ridiculously talented Angela Dawe. I'm not embarrassed to say that I'm having a serious love affair with that woman's voice. I absolutely loved both of these books!

I wasn’t sure I wanted to read about Ash’s love story after reading Perfect Rythym where she was the villain. By the end of this book not only was I rooting for her, I understood her & her story in many ways held many universal truths about fear & lonliness & courage and happiness and everything in between. I was moved in a way I didn’t expect. Ash is a gorgeous florist who keeps everyone at arms length because she’s afraid they’ll get to know her true self. She lives a lonely life until sparks fly with her ex’s best friend- Sasha- who is self confident & bold, tall, and with swagger in her 6 foot frame. But it’s not until Ash can get away from her small town and is surrounded by other wonderful queer couples on a bachelorette weekend that Ash actually can imagine a different future for herself. It was awesome to see Grace and Lauren from Jae’s other novel tooThis is a great follow up to Perfect Rythm but can be read as a stand-alone (although the other book is so good I’d read them both back to back).

I really loved the first book Perfect Rhythm in which We first meet Sasha and Ashley and I didn't really like Ashley at first because of Her attitude toward Leo and Holly but in the second book I became to understand Her being in the closet and not wanting people to know her true self. In the Second book with the help of Sasha, Ashley comes out of Her shell and slowly realises that She has Friends who really didn't mind if She was Gay or Straight. I fell in love with Sasha who was such a sweetheart and She was a gentle giant and was a great friend to Holly and Ashley too. Jae is one of My favourite authors and I love it when She brings in others characters from Her other books. A Brilliant follow up to the first book and definitely worth a read
