Spoilers.
I don't get the appeal of going to Mars, but the show is interesting enough. Good graphics, good cinematography. The sub-Martian terrain is great. The show looks good on a big screen.
The intro song... ugh. UGH. Imagine Venus in Furs by The Velvet Underground, but with lyrics written by someone with an extremely large collection of pocket protectors and slide rules. Good visuals, dramatic music - those parts are good and appropriate, but the lyrics? The singer is just going on about atmospheric entry protocols and numbers and math, with "baby" thrown in to Sound Cool. Like if someone with taped-up Coke bottle glasses was in a biker gang. Fast forward that part, alright? Just do it. TRUST me on this.
There are interviews in the present day, and then there is the Future Timeline, which starts in the early 2030s and then progresses forward from there. The interviews are good, and the mix of present-day and future is enjoyable. The plot ranges from Okay to Pretty Good - imagine Moonbase Alpha, but instead of a video game, it's a TV show. (There are lots of hoses, plugging things in, and repairing stuff.)
They sometimes rely on incredibly transparent plot devices. For example, there is The Door That Kills Everyone Nearby And Ruins The Whole Food Supply If You Open It Because For Some Reason There Is No Airlock Or Access Control. You can just walk up to this door, no access card swipe, no password, no need for approval from operations. The controller doesn't even check to see whether the outside is pressurized or not (which would be something like two lines of code, that could be written in one minute). You just beep boop a couple of buttons, pull a lever, and it opens. There are alarms that sound elsewhere in the habitat if this is happening, but no one can remotely override it. It makes ZERO sense that they would overlook something like this on a habitat that's going to be deployed on Mars, an environment which is trying to kill everyone all the time, and which has been packed full of people who are pushed to their psychological limits.
Anyway, the present-day interviews are interesting, and the plot is good enough to be watchable. I just wish they would have come up with some more clever ways to challenge the crew. Not some slopped-together nonsense like that. Also, a theme song that doesn't make me cringe. That would be great.
I bought the season pass, and I'll be watching it through to the end. If you like space and lasers and pretty graphics, and if you can overlook the silly plot devices, this show is probably for you.

The story in mentally challenging to the viewer ("how would I have done it better? ")
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 13, 2017
Well written, special effects visually breath taking, The story in mentally challenging to the viewer ("how would I have done it better?"),
One thing I think that could have been done better was suited astronauts entering the habitat using a clean room protocol to keep the dust out of the living areas. The dust on the Moon can be fatal if inhaled over a long period of time. The particles are sharp on the moon because there are no forces like wind, and water to round the edges. On Mars there is wind but, I am guessing that the dust may be nearly as hazardous... A chip Fabrication facility uses an air knife to blow dust off workers to prevent contamination. In the airlock with helmets on, scrub the suits with air streams, and perhaps hand brushes to remove all dust before entering the Habitat. Caves are the best bet for large habitats on the Moon, and Mars. micro-meteorite protection, radiation shielding, and temperature moderation (-20 F. constant?). Also potential for very large pressurized habitats, perhaps miles long, thousand feet high, 1/2 mile wide. I feel The Moon will win out for the next 100 years or so because of the Moon's proximity to Earth (3 days each way, and launch any time). Mars is 7 months away, and launch windows every 2 years. We have a lot to prove before going feet first to Mars...

I love the historic flashbacks and I love the subplot questioning why we gave up on the Space Program. We need to stop making bombs and get our priorities back on track and this is the best kind of SciFi, because it is totally within the realm of the possible! The space program gives us way more back than it costs us from spinoff technologies alone, not to mention all the inspiration it gives kids that makes them more interested in science!
I really want to give it five stars, because I really want it to continue, but the writers need to be a little more realistic about the basic science and use a little more common sense. You do realize that a drone can't fly on Mars, right? The propellers need an atmosphere to push against and there just isn't enough of it on mars.. You could have made little ball like surface vehicles if you wanted to do ground exploration or you would have needed to do that via a satellite. Plus the site survey would be done long before sending people there. These things are super annoying, but they are fixable issues. The overall plot is great! Thanks!

This series successfully weaves a dramatic narrative with scientific commentary about the story.

This was very well done. Acting, effects, etc all first rate. Shifted back and forth between an actual mission to begin the colonization of Mars in the 2030's and then back to present (2016) to show the steps being taken to prepare for the portion of the mission that they were currently showing. Nicely edited in that respect. It didn't feel like they were bouncing back and forth unnecessarily. It flowed very nicely. It detailed a lot of steps and considerations that you probably haven't considered. The second season got a bit preachy about global warming, etc but you just can't seem to get away from that stuff any more.

Me encanta que se combinen las teorías con las acciones y entrevistas de personalidades actuales. Da una sensación de que es algo alcanzable.
