CHANGING ORIGINAL 5 STAR REVIEW TO 1 STAR
Well I guess I jinxed myself by writing a 5 star review and talking about how other reviewers said amp failed but I’ve had no problems. The very next day after writing review this amp stopped working on low power setting - tubes lit but no sound at all. For whatever reason, IT STILL WORKS FINE ON HIGH POWER SETTING, but it doesn’t matter - broken is broken. Return window closed 3 weeks ago so now I have to figure out how to repair this thing, as if a bad design can be repaired haha.
It is a great platform amp for mods though . You can have work done on the preamp to tighten it up. Get high quality preamp tubes - and have someone mess with the gain structure as well as high end cut and clarity .
Now the JVM410 - is a different story . The JVM410H has 6 channels ( albeit some do the same thing but are for setting diff gain levels ) but all of the channels sound really good . Typical Marshall good. The od 2 on this amp can get to mud level ala doom sludge if you want , but it can stay crisp at lower levels .
The older dsl's , the $1200 retail heads were really good . If you know a good tech these can be fixed up easily but it might just be better to get the JVM series .
This is just a heads up if you are buying without trying.
