After growing up in Spain, Dr. Katalenas moved to the United States in 1984 to learn English and to become a pediatrician. About one week after her arrival, she met the American man who would eventually become her husband. He introduced her to the American phrase “from scratch”, which is the inspiration for her book, The Step Up Diet, From Scratch... The Quality, Quantity and Timing Solution to Childhood Obesity.
Dr. Katalenas and her husband settled in Round Rock, Texas and in 1996, she founded the Pediatric Center of Round Rock. At her practice, she offers a Nutrition Management Program, which helps families achieve balance and knowledge about eating habits. Ultimately, making parents aware of the importance their eating habits play on their children’s health.
As a pediatrician for over 25 years, Dr. Katalenas has seen firsthand the rise of obesity among her patients. To fight the epidemic, she created the Step Up model, an easy three-step plan to help transform the whole family’s eating habits, which she has turned into a book.
