I have wanted this punch for a couple months and I finally got it today. I now see that the reviews before me are right, it does punch a very small slot. The slots are 3/16th of an inch and here I am with all this great ribbon that is 3/8 of an inch. The only ribbon this punch is designed for is gift ribbon, the shinny stuff you curl with your scissors. I found that if you punch your edge you have a little over 3/8 of an inch to the edge of the paper. So you can flip over the punch, use it upside down and going back through and lining it up, you can punch a second time to make the slot almost double its original size. It takes a bit of practice but it can be done and even if your slots aren't exactly lined up, the ribbon covers the holes well. So, while it is a little extra work to get those great patterned 3/8 inch ribbon to work with it, it comes out nice after its done. Good luck ladies!

I was bummed at first because the holes are small. They measure slightly over 1/8 in., but not as long as 1/4 in. So, you can thread a 1/8 in. ribbon, but I don't prefer this look because there is a slight bit of room left over in the hole (and I prefer to cover the entire hole to make it look 'clean'). So, I flipped the punch over (as described by a reviewer), and punched through the back and lengthened the holes to fit a 3/8 in. ribbon. It is not difficult to line up, and I do not have steady hands. Not tedious and even if not completely lined up straight the ribbon will cover holes. I have included photos of just a standard thread look (3/8 in. ribbon used). There are many possibilities on how you can use this punch. I haven't had time to play with it, but will try different threads out in the future.

For those looking for a ribbon punch get the one from Fiskers. It's easy to punch AND it works perfectly with 3/8" ribbon. The slots are also a little closer together than the Martha Stewart one. It's also cheaper at $11 from Staples.

This ribbon punch is terrible. The holes are too small for any ribbon I can find. It says it works for 1/4" ribbon, but it doesn't. Don't waste your money.

AT FIRST I THOUGHT THIS PRODUCT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT. WHEN I GOT IT, AND STARTED USING IT I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT I WASTED MONEY.
THE PUNCH CUT OUTS WERE TO SMALL TO FIT THE 1/4" RIBBON IT SAYS IT WOULD FIT. I BOUGHT RIBBON FROM AMAZON JUST TO GO WITH THE RIBBON THREAD PUNCH, BUT IT DIDN'T FIT.
THE GRID FOR SPACING DIDN'T LEAVE EVEN SPACES EITHER BETWEEN HOLES. SO IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET EVEN SPACING THROUGHOUT.

I read the reviews on this edger threader after I had ordered it and was a little disappointed. However, the complaints are unfounded as its a great punch and it threads the ribbon through beautifully. It adds a lovely edge to any project. I have had heaps of comments about my cards and people want to know where I got it. As we cant get all the great stock you get in the States (I am in Australia) its nice to have something no one else has (for a short time, anyway). Well done Martha Stewart another great product!!

If at first you don't succeed -- re-read the instructions. Once I did that and realized that the corner punch has wings that need to be opened for proper alignment, everything came out perfect. I'm mentioning my initial goof because I've read somewhere else that some people have trouble with the alignment, and this could be the reason. Paper size must also be followed accurately when punching all the way around. Once these two issues are resolved, these combo edge punches are simply amazing and easy and fun to use. I agree with a previous reviewer, quality of MS punches is very high.

The paper lace this punch makes, looks very pretty - I have used it on white paper and just pasted the 'lace' created on a dark paper and the effect is very elegant and beautiful. However, the punch has a few chinks that need to be sorted out :
1. Invariably there are a few 'petals' that do not get punched out completely and need to be removed manually - this is more tricky than it seems, as it may ruin the punched out piece if pulled too hard and block some of the design, if its not pulled out completely.
2. The lace effect looks VERY different if you try to punch to the edge of the paper - the solid edge of paper at the end gets separated (as it would if you punch till the end) but the look of the 'lace / pattern' is very different then and it would have been nice to be able to view that before buying the punch. I actually like it better without the solid edge, so its fine for me. Hence the 4 stars.
