About the Author
Abigayle has been inspired to write since she could spell her own name. Her passion wasn't completing the stories (she did that twice and decided it wasn't for her), it was jotting down the ideas. But in 2015, a story grabbed her--one she had to finish. Inspired by a crazy dream in a genre she no longer read, Abigayle set off on a journey to write her first novel and she hasn't looked back since. Writing is her ministry, freelance editing her job, and reading her pastime--all of which are proof that God really does know what He's doing when He inspires a 6-year-old with a pencil in her left hand.

I had the privelege of Beta Reading this book for Abigayle. I read it right after it came out and the fact that I enjoyed it SO much a second time speaks volumes.
This book is full of innocent, real life beauty. The plot is so great because it took me on twists and turns I did not expect! This book made me smile, tear up, laugh out loud, and I literally just wanted to hug the book.
The aspects of a large family were so amazingly done! From the perspective of a gal (me) who has a large family and lots of siblings, I was totally relating and nodding my head while laughing. It is so realistic and heart warming. And instead of the numerous characters getting mixed up or shuffled together, each character had a personality that was unique and interesting. I remember them all! The humor was also spot on!
Which brings me to another thing about this book. It was memorable. The attention to detail was amazing, but yet, it never got bogged down. For instance, she made a nail memorable. A nail people! And that nail made me so happy! You will have to read the book to know what I am talking about, but I am not even kidding. While this book is pretty long by today’s standards, I loved it. I am used to reading books written from a time-period that is 50 years or more behind us. This book hearkened back to that time. I just loved it so much that I really wanted to live in this book! Abigayle made me want to hug her characters, and smack a few of them. Which is a good thing because it means I was so into it! The romance is so sweet and understated. . . just the way I like it. Can I hug somebody, please?
The story does deal with some nitty-gritty things. Gemma’s past is far from perfect, but Abigayle never goes into uncomfortable details. It is handled delicately enough that it is a pleasant read. I would recommend that the readers be 14+ for some of the content. Aside from that, it is just a lovely, enjoyable, and glorious read.
Which leads me to my last comment. The gospel truths that were woven throughout the story make this book so much better. Gemma’s story of finding God was a highlight in this book. I don’t doubt that God placed this story on Abigayle’s heart for a reason and I trust that He will use it for His glory.
I will be putting my copy of Martin Hospitality on the shelf in a place of honor! I look forward to more of what Abigayle Claire has to offer! Hats off to you Abigayle! You wrote an amazing book!
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a clean read to snuggle up with. Looking forward to more from Abigayle Claire!
The authoress portrayed life in a large family wonderfully! Even though there were many characters to interact with, I felt like each person had his/her own unique personality. Being from a large family myself, I saw the small details that make Martin Hospitality show what life is like for us. Readers from families of all sizes will enjoy getting to know the Martins and learning what life is like for large families who live on a farm.
The character development stood out to me as one of the best aspects of this book. Gemma's perspective in life changes dramatically throughout the plot. I can't give away details without spoiling the book, but I can say that there was Christian truth, the Gospel explained, and a clean romance. (lovely romance, by the way!)
The only reason I leave 4 stars instead of 5 is that this book seemed to be very long. I enjoyed the book – don't get me wrong! Even so, I felt like perhaps it could have been split into two books. But if you enjoy longer reads it won't be a problem. This book also contains some deeper, mature issues such as abusive relationships, pregnancy before marriage, etc. I would recommend this book to young adults 14+. The only other aspect that makes me leave less than 5 stars is that the message of the book didn't change my life. This would be a great book for a young Believer or an unsaved person, but it didn't inspire me in that way. I appreciated that it explained the Gospel though, and I hope that God uses it to change lives!
Overall, I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to others from this author. =)
