Little Martin grew up in a family of preachers: his dad was a preacher, his uncle was a preacher, his grandfather was a preacher…so maybe he’d become a great preacher too. One day, a friend invited him to play at his house. Martin was shocked when his mother wouldn’t let him in because he was black. That day he realized there was something terribly unfair going on. Martin believed that no one should remain silent and accept something if it's wrong. And he promised himself that—when he grew up—he’d fight injustice with the most powerful weapon of all: words. This moving book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the inspiring activist’s life.
Little People, BIG DREAMS is a best-selling series of books and educational games that explore the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.
This empowering series offers inspiring messages to children of all ages, in a range of formats. The board books are told in simple sentences, perfect for reading aloud to babies and toddlers. About the author

¡Hola! My name is Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara and I’m a writer and creative director from Barcelona. When I was a little girl, I used to read books under the covers with a flashlight once my mom had turned the light off. I always wanted to be a writer… but when I grew up, I ended up in advertising. It was a lot of fun though; I loved working with directors, photographers, designers, and I also wrote scripts, documentaries and texts for all kind of things.
Then, I decided to self-publish a book that had been in my mind for a long time. One day, one thousand copies of the book arrived at my home – I had no idea what I was going to do with them! I opened a little online shop, offered them to some pretty stores in my neighborhood and, one by one, I sold them all. Soon, publishing houses started to approach me to write books, but I was working on another idea of my own: a series about little people with BIG dreams.

My son has been seeing what’s been happening on the TV and he’s five he was asking me so many questions and I found it really difficult to explain.
So I bought this story for him in hopes that it would help with some of the questions that he had.
He was absolutely disgusted with the way how Martin Luther King was treated. It genuinely upset him when we where reading. What Infuriated him the most was Martin Luther king invited over to play with a friend but because he was black he was sent home and he wasn’t allowed to sit on the bus with his friends he was in allowed to go to the same school, & he was arrested for being black.
He didn’t understand how people can treat other people differently just because the colour of their skin.
He is learn some valuable lessons from this book. On why we don’t judge anybody and if we are going to judge a person we don’t judged by the colour of their skin but by their character.
I have recommended this book to my friends who have bought for their children after explaining what had happened with my son.

He’s been reading with mum, but I’ve had lovely reports that it’s generated discussions around black poverty and how MLK helped changed this. A great conversation starter.
