A Kid's Review on February 10, 2011
Format: Hardcover
A lot of fun. Quick reading, full of great art. But there are some puzzling things... and "Things" is one of them! No "THING" here! The other three members of the Fantastic Four are here, but of all of them The Thing has participated most in the Avengers... and he's the one missing.

And not to argue over "powers" like a school boy, but Hawkeye's fightng skills are listed at 7. That put's him in the Captain America, Wolverine, Shang Chi area. A better fighter than Iron Fist, Black Panther... and more. Really?

But again, a fun read. Good for new and old readers.

My 16 year old daughter LOVES it this book! I surprised her with it for Christmas and she was just thrilled. She loves all things Marvel and is really into cosplay, so this has given her so many ideas and a lot of great background info on the characters. Fantastic illustrations.

My son claims to be the biggest fan for any Marvel or DC things and he has even learned a lot of cool new information about some of the characters who make up the Marvel world. He has carried this book around for weeks reading and rereading every aspect of these characters. As someone who isn't into the comic world as much as my son, I too have found them to be enjoyable, informative and entertaining to read. Would love to find more.

I'am a little disappointed with this edition (2015), It's supposed to be an updated and expanded edition but some characters from previous edition (2010) were removed, especially the ones related with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four (maybe because all controversial legal rights between disney-fox for made their films, I don't know) furthermore some "characters" are just groups or organizations (hydra, A.I.M.). I made a list with the characters that appeared in the previous edition but they didn't in the new one. And a list of the new characters that appear in 2015 edition.

If you are an Avengers fan or Marvel comics fan this book is a must own!!!!!!!! This books shows both heroes(Avengers) and villains that operate in the Avenger world. The descriptions of each character is on point. Each character descriptions are not to long or short just giving the right amount of facts to know how the character operates in the Avenger environment. There plenty of colorful pictures showing each very characters. This book shows some lesser know characters with some pretty cool backgrounds(maybe one day in an Avengers movie). This is a great book to own if you want the history of characters that are involved in the Avengers universe.

I purchased this book for kicks being a Marvel comics fan and was let down by the fact that they left out some fairly popular villains. How could you forget Modok??? Seriously?
Aside from that, the book is in full color and pretty cool if you are curious about the Avengers, especially with the Avengers movie coming in 2012.

First off I want to clarify that I only give it a 3 star rating solely based on the power rankings.(more on that later)

The book is great for teaching children about the characters and inspires them to read. Which is the most important aspect here, especially in the day and age of sitting In front of a game console or I phone for hours on end.......
I have two boys 8 and 5 who have been into superheroes since they were 2 years old. They love this book as well as the DC version. Both books have been the source of many discussions amongst us, these books have, even gotten my wife into superheroes!
I hope DK comes out with a new versions covering much more of the extensive Marvel and DC universes. They could easily double the amount of characters and people would buy the new versions for that reason alone.

Now for the bad, which only really applies to comic book people such as myself. The power rankings are waaaay off!
Not to go into all of the inaccuracies, but here is just one that is like a punch in the face for anyone who reads comics.
THOR. The Viking god who has been fighting brutal wars for over 12 hundred years is only a 4 out of 7 in fighting skill? Really? If anyone is a 7 it's him. He might even be an 8!

They have the following characters ranked higher or on par with The Mighty Thor in skill. Baron zemo 5, the pacifist Beast 4, big Bertha 4, black bolt 4, black knight 5, black panther 5, black widow 5, blastarr 4, bloodwraith 5, bullseye 5, captain America 6, captain mar'vell 4, Charlie 27 4, dakken 7 ( uhh why? Because he is related to wolverine. Not!) daredevil 6, death bird 6, death cry 4, demolition man 5, diamond back 4, Dinah soar 4, dr doom 4, dr voodoo 4, doorman 4, dormammu 4, dum dum Dugan 4, echo 6 (uhh ok).
