A Damn Good Game, But So Damn Expensive!

This is a FIVE STAR game. It is almost flawless and even contains eight additional characters. The reason I give it four stars is because of the outlandish price. I paid over $70 for this game. While, again, it's a five star game, I think it shouldn't be so expensive to buy (especially used, as I had to since buying new meant over $200 or so). The game came out over eight years ago and, awesome or not, should be so expensive.

As for the game itself it was quite amazing, a marked improvement in many ways from the X-Men Legends games that the gameplay style is base from. The cutscenes were flawlessly done and the special dialogue, gameplay, and story was quite excellent.

The main flaws for me was that there were only five playable female characters when they had an ENTIRE comic book universe to choose from (obvious additions would have been Black Widow and Gamora, though back then Marvel couldn't know how popular they would become in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; Black Cat, She-Hulk, Scarlet Witch if they improved her abilities from X-Men Legends II, and maybe one or two more female X-Men members). Also some continuity issues bugged me (such as Spider-Woman not having super strength) but that's just me being nitpicky.

We had the regular edition and the publisher stopped providing the additional content for download by the time we bought it so we were unable to play with the Hero and Villain Packs. The family has really enjoyed playing this game a lot over the years but we were always pretty bummed about not having the additional content. I was really excited to find this Gold Edition for a reasonable price for once.

The game itself is a really great story for an older game and the play style is very challenging at times when working as a team. I definitely recommend it as a good action game that a gaming family can play together and have a lot of fun together for hours. As for the purchase and shipping, the game was delivered a day ahead of time and it was in perfect condition. We are very pleased overall.

The extra 8 characters add a lot to an already stacked lineup of marvel superheroes and to a great story that is fun to play in the various groups of 4 you choose. Its like having spiderman, fantastic four, the hulk, x men games all available at the same time. The RPG elements are enough to make the game fun but not too much where it takes away from the action. Very high replayability as mentioned also because of the numerous teams you can create.

This game has obviously been crafted with the intent of capturing Marvel comic book fans, but do not be fooled, a very solid 4-player Action RPG in the vein of Diablo lies underneath the pretty licensed coat of paint. With tons of skills, unique characters, and a fairly long campaign, this is recommended to any Action RPG fan, especially if you have a few friends that are willing to play along with you.
