I was sorely disappointed.
The story mode was rushed. There is only one storyline that you can follow and no individual stories for each character. You start in the middle of chaos without any explanation or backstory. Dialog was dull and it felt unendurable despite the fact that you can finish the story in about 90 minutes or less.
The roster is one of the games biggest disappointments. You only get 30 characters and no X-men at all. Character designs are clumsy, laughably hyperbolic, uber-muscular, and/or toxically masculine. The shoulders on some characters (e.g. Captain America, Chris Redfield) are way out of proportion, leaving them looking like they have no neck. Other characters like Dante look exactly like older versions with not even any improvement in resolution. What's worse is that you will need to pay to unlock the additional six characters. The only reward for finishing a character in arcade mode is you get a different color palette for said character - no cinematics, no good endings or epilogues, and no unlocking of secret characters.
The stages are also limited and boring. Characters seem to just float on top of two-dimensional stages and there is no interaction between the stage and the character. Even old street fighter games had more interesting stages with dynamic NPCs cheering on or getting terrified, and some parts of the stage would get destroyed as fights go on.
The menus also look very generic. This whole game looks like a generic/cheap knockoff.
The only redeeming quality is the gameplay. The ability to switch characters practically anytime can lead to some awesome tag-team combos. The infinity stones add a new layer to the gameplay, giving characters a special move depending on what stone they have and once the stones reach a certain level, characters can release it to drastically enhance their abilities, or limit their enemies.
I don't think this game was worth the price I paid, even if I paid less for a used version. It's a complete disappointment for fans that are familiar with the franchise.
Worth picking up on the cheap if you're a fighting game fan.
Overall I think that was rushed, and needed quite a bit more polishing time. If you can look past the bad visual's (which personally is a little hard for me) You'll enjoy the fighter. At this point in time there are much better fighters to take advantage of though, and considering Capcom has gone all but silent, I assume what we have now is what were going to get support wise...
FYI there are NO X-men or Fantastic 4 characters. Practically every single character here is from the MCU. That's a pretty big letdown. The controls are okay but they feel a bit stiff at times.
BTW there is a 10GB day one patch for this so you may wanna just skip the patch and go right into the game. Up to you. Compared to the last two entries though this game feels very bare. There's also some odd texturing issues in some of the game modes, most noticeably split-screen. Nothing too distracting but it was noticeable. As for character skins, they're basically just 4 color shaders per character. Most of them being massively underwhelming or downright ugly. My advice, save your money and wait for the inevitable complete edition with all the dlc. I may do that. I'll update this if anything changes.
