I purchased this book as Ms. Engelbreit's work rose to fame in the late 80's to 90's, her style was unique in it's nostalgic feel and soon illustrators were lifting her checkerboard design and cherries on black background pattern, in hopes of selling their designs to giftware companies. This book describes in detail how this self taught artist honed her personal style and without much education in marketing her work-built a company with several employees, and sucessfully licensed her art on products and even branded her name on mall stores and yes, a magazine.
This book is an intimate and informative read on how Ms. Engelbreit rose to fame and continues to maintain favor in several niche markets. I'd recommend this book to anyone seeking to market their own designs in the greeting card lifestyle arena or to fans of Ms. Engelbreit's art.
