December is one of my favorite months. Cool, sometimes slushy snowflakes tumble to the ground.
I love the festive lights.

Blog postYears ago, when I first started this blog, a writer commented, "I can see you like to travel."
She was right.

Blog postThe advantage of traveling is stumbling upon fantastic places to eat. Sometimes a restaurant is hidden in unexpected places.
During this week's snow/ice/sleet storm that bulldozed across the United States this week, hubby and I were forced to stop at exit 10 in Chesterton, Missouri. I must admit, I didn't expect this weather in the southern portion of Missouri.

Blog postThis is not my first time driving through New Mexico. If I have my say, it won't be my last.
This state has colorful landscapes mastered.
Someday, I hope to actually stay here a few days here. Probably not in the summer. Too hot. For now, New Mexico serves as a link to my destination. A link worth capturing on film and sharing with you.
I drove south on a two-lane highway.
The sun rose to my left.

Blog postThe snow pictures are appearing on the internet. Already! I've seen some from Colorado, Iowa, and Montana. I hear the snow is heading east.
Before the chilly temps take us to the end of the year, let's head to the beach one more time, eh?
I especially enjoy the duck families who visit every year. Once their babies are old enough they leave. But until then, they hang around on our little beach.

Blog postDid you know I went to the Alps this month? Seriously! The picturesque mountains of Europe. The snowcapped most of the year string of mountains. The place of history, culture, a-mazing food, and much more.
Oh to pick from the many amazing opportunities, sites and sounds, smells and tastes to talk about today. I am beyond jazzed. Can you tell????

Blog postThe roads in remote areas of Italy are very narrow. Our travel bus barely fit on a few. The driver didn't even attempt to drive the bus on others. To visit this farm, he dropped us off at the top of the hill. We walked down a small road to the driveway then farther down to this farm. Now I see why they have such tiny cars.
Along the driveway is this huge garden. Roma tomatoes!
I wish my garden looked this lovely. The animals roam free. Such a fun place to be!

Blog postA reminder for all who read my Let's Talk blog, Blending Sites and Storytelling is the new look and new name. I look forward to seeing you here each week and reading your responses. Feel free to share what you also know.
I'm not an expert, but I am easily intrigued by crazy things like how nature can have a power play over a lighthouse.
I'll show you.

Blog postMary Vee's blog has a new name and a new look.
I thought about what I write, what I post on social media and even what articles I prefer to write here on this blog.
The bottom line is, I like to see our world. Big. Small. Rural. Woods. City. You name it. My extended family has a cabin where family members like to vacation every year. One said, isn't it nice to sit back and listen to the water? Sure. But not in one place. I haven't seen the Indian Ocean, but I've seen3 months ago Read more -
Blog postLast week, the director of the Literacy Council in my county asked me to tutor a single mom who wants to pass the GED.
My first thought: How awesome is that. She wants to pass the GED. Good for her. Of course I want to help.
The director then said, the woman needs help in math.
My first thought: how hard can it be? I taught third grade math.
Are you laughing? I would too...if it wasn't me.

Blog postHere is a fun summer idea for any number of persons.
Go on a city scanvenger hunt. Choose one or more unusual items, google all the venders that typically have that item and hop in your car or on your bicycle.

We had an unusual cake for our wedding. One that had to be specially ordered. I4 months ago Read more -
Blog postThe final step in the long process to become an American citizen is taking the oath. A ceremony is scheduled for a large group of applicants to take this final step together.
This week, seventy individuals from fifty countries dressed in their best and brought their friends and family to the event.
The Gerald R Ford presidential auditorium was filled to capacity with several individuals standing in the back.

Blog postTechnological advances have come a long way to help those who are visually impaired. Those devices are used only by the individual, which is great.
The Be My Eyes app won two awards for technology in 2018 and they need our help.

One of the favorite summer pass times for readers is finding and reading the perfect book on a beach.
Sitting under a sun umbrella with a coating of sun tan lotion, readers turn pages to the beat of waves rippling on the shore. What could be more peaceful?
There are so many stories available, how can we choose?

Writers learn early on the importance of writing about what you know.
This doesn't necessarily mean we are experts in the topic we include. But we have dabbled in or research a plethora of resources which enable us to seamlessly take a reader to the location, or communicate the experience.

Blog postPhoto by Mary VeeDue to modern technology, blind students are using Braille less. Audible advances enable these individuals to hear stories and informative text easily.
Educators are finding that these students have become deficient in spelling, composition, and are limited to only that which is produced audibly.
Here is some amazing facts about Braille.

Blog postA 1930's radio program started the Green Super Hero craze in 1930.
The Green Hornet matched wits with the underworld, ridding the world of criminals and racketeers. A 2011 movie made by Universal Studios updated the story with ridding the world of meth labs.
In 1940 DC Comics created the Green Lantern. He wears a ring that gives him the power to create anything. His power is limited by the ring which must be charged by a green lantern. The power originat6 months ago Read more -

This week a thread on Facebook received a lot of attention. The comment section basically drove it viral. The issue was eating disorders of a strange kind.
Some parents have taken the goals for good eating and exercise for children as outlined by Michelle Obama a few years ago to the extreme by placing children on adult level diets. Restricting the daily caloric intake for a child to 600 in one case.

Blog postSo, I am at the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writer's Conference east of Asheville, North Carolina. Like the previous years when I attended this conference, the instructors provided all and more than I needed. I have learned so much.
But the week hasn't been easy. I struggled while dragging my suitcase up the hill from my car and into my assigned room because my arm was not fully healed from the break in February. Lifting my laptop out of my bag hurt. Typing took a lot6 months ago Read more -
Blog postSo many children end up spending a long time in hospitals. I was one. I spent my entire Kindergarten year in a hospital. Some of these little darlings pop in and out of hospitals over a long time. Nursing staff know them on a first name basis as they walk in the door.
Sigh.
I saw this wonderful new idea to help these little ones. I took a little screen shot of one photo to give you an idea.

Today we are talking about accents around the world.
While working with a Crow Indian people group, I noticed the children barely had the accent of their parents'. I mentioned this to a linguistics student and learned an individual's accent comes mostly from the child's school and neighboorhood friends.

While on my book tour, I was invited to speak to 6 classes. Rather than lecture the students, I chose to engage them in an activity. A map making activity.
Most fantasy novels have a map in the beginning pages of the book. The purpose is to acquaint the reader with the fictional land where the story takes place.
