About the Author

Julia has been a voracious reader since childhood, using books to escape the miseries of a turbulent adolescence. After leaving university with a degree in English Language and Literature, she spent her twenties trying to be a sensible and responsible person, even going so far as to work for the Civil Service. The book escape came in very useful there too. And then she gave up trying to conform and resolved to spend the rest of her life living as she wanted to, not as others would like her to. She has since had a variety of jobs, including telesales, teaching and gilding and is currently a transcriber, copy editor and proofreader. In her spare time she is still a voracious reader, and enjoys keeping fit and travelling the world. Life hasn’t always been good, but it has rarely been boring. She lives in rural Wales with her cat Constantine, and her wonderful partner sensibly lives four miles away in the next village. Now she has decided that rather than just escape into other people’s books, she would actually quite like to create some of her own, in the hopes that people will enjoy reading them as much as she does writing them.

Historically correct, with unsuspecting twists and turns, the author writes with a style that keeps you intrigued. This is not only a story of the Jacobite Rebellion but a story of love and family. I guarantee you will love this read!

I hated that the book came to an end. I could have read on and on forever in thus series....and my only negative comment is it ended too abruptly.
This is a very well written historical novel regarding the Jacobites struggle for the throne of England and a free Scotland during the mid 1700's...and it is so interesting. The author has written a unique storyline with strong, memorable characters and events and she's done it obviously utilizing factual events. The characters are well described and believable. This is not your run-of-the-mill romance novel. It is so well thought out...the conversations, language and interactions are right on. I will look forward to reading more from this author in the future. You really get an understanding of how the Jacobite faction existed and why.
I highly recommend this series to anyone desiring a definition of what a Jacobite was set on the context of a historic romance novel. Brannan did her homework and has produced an outstanding series! Too bad there's no Book #3.

The Mask Revealed is the second novel in the Jacobite Chronicles series. Although Julia Brannan provides a synopsis of the first novel, the Mask of Duplicity, at the beginning of this book, you will be doing yourself a disservice to skip the first novel and jump straight into the second. Mask of Duplicity develops the characters and sets the stage for this second novel.

The Mask Revealed pulls you into the intrigue of the European and English courts leading up to the Jacobite Rising of 1745. Sir Anthony Peters, a walking parody of an English dandy, is not all he seems to be. Beth, unaware of Sir Anthony’s secrets, is forced into his circle to escape her degenerate brother. As the man behind the mask is revealed, Beth is embroiled in conspiracy and plotting; drawn in, but still held at arm’s length.

If, like me, you were lured in with book one and captivated with book two, you are anxiously awaiting book three now. Sadly, there are only two books available from Julia Brannan at this point. I think all of Julia’s new fans will be lying awake for many months thinking about Beth and Alex and wondering where their lives have taken them. I know I will.

Just as interesting and fast paced as the first book in “The Jacobite Chronicles” series. It also includes the historical background and the large cast of characters at the beginning. And a summary of book one for those who have not read it. As such it could be read without reading book #1, but it is more enjoyable if you read Mask of Duplicity first.

Historical fiction fans will enjoy this second installment of The Jacobite Chronicles. Set in England and continental Europe in the 1740s just before the Jacobite uprising, this story is rich with dimensional characters and social commentary.

The first book of the Jacobite Chronicles was slow to start until the introduction of an interesting main character - this held my attention and I thought this interest would carry into the next book - The Mask Revealed. Not so. The plot drags with the usual mistrust and almost high school-ish quarreling; ending in the kiss and make-up finale. Might have been better if there had been only one book.

The story presented just the right mix of historical description and romantic characterization to keep me informed and eager to stay with the characters. Even though they were at times larger than life their interconnections were believable and pulled me into their world.
