I didn't really like the story, but I will say that it is well-written and very readable. I'm curious to know if the storyline for all three books was planned out ahead of time, because I wasn't really expecting this book to go in the direction it did (to it's detriment, in my opinion).
So, the cat is out of the bag about Brad being a swinger, and Julia decides that swinging seems like a nice transition for a slightly prudish girl who has only had two previous sexual partners. Brad agrees to be completely faithful to Julia, only having sex with other women when she is present (I can't even type that without laughing!), because that seems totally reasonable to her. They go to a fancy masked swingers party (Julia only wants to observe) and wind up having sex in the middle of the room. But Brad spies a hot little blonde and he's ready to take a ride to threesome town! Oddly, the blonde (a virgin) is into it. I remember back when I was a virgin, I always wanted my first sexual experience to be with a complete stranger and his girlfriend. Isn't that what all young women hope for?
So, if you're thinking that this is the warm up for Brad and Julia's erotic romance, you are going to be disappointed. If you are hoping that this book turns into some kind of murder mystery with mob connections, then you'll be pretty excited.
There isn't much insight into Brad and Julia's relationship. Julia's worried about her job, not worried enough to stop sleeping with her employer, but worried. Brad, for being one of the best divorce lawyers in the country, works very little. He mostly swaggers around the office (I mean, he HAS to, carrying around that enormous manhood in his pants) and tries to get into Julia's panties.
The mob thing was tedious, I found myself not caring. Especially since it was never hinted at in the first book at all, it just seemed out of nowhere. The first book wasn't great, but it was more entertaining than this one.
What surprised me the most in this book is Julia. She is really rocking the confidence and she is really coming in to her own in this book, my only problem was if it gelled with the Julia we meet at the beginning of the first book. Likely yes, but how can she so easily give up control when that is what she thrived on prior to Brad.
A saving grace was the mystery/murder/family ties shocker. I had never seen that one coming and it really made the story more interesting. My time line is messed up though, and I am not sure how so much happens in such a short span of time. Totally looking forward to what is going to come next.
