Jerrod has been fighting a guerilla battle from inside the ranks of the Weir. Their latest attack, a serum that will kill any of the Pur exposed to it. It's war and sacrifices must be made. When the life of a little boy becomes the next target, Jerrod will need to take drastic measures to protect the Earth. His choices will put him at odds with Ian. Two of Earth's champions could be pitted against each other, when they should be working together.
Masks and Mirrors is the exciting sequel to Fade to Black. Sue Duff continues her story of the magic wielding Weir as they struggle to control the Earth. One side fighting to preserve our future, the other on a mad quest for power. A fun read and an attractive story for sci-fi and urban fantasy readers alike.
I got this to Review.
I thought highly of Masks and Mirrors when I read the blurb. Ever since I've read These Broken Stars I've gotten a special fondness for sci-fi and now I'm trying to add more books on my read shelf in that genre. Unfortunately Masks and Mirrors isn't gonna be one of those.
I was more than halfway through the book when I finally decided to put it down. I can't help it. Absolutely nothing was happening. I only got that far anyway because I skipped most of the parts. I was bored and I just couldn't get into the story. There was no action and no intrigue that would've kept me reading. All I got were a bunch of characters who I didn't care enough to know and one couple who's biggest problem is that they can't be together. And Ian. That guy appears and disappears whenever he wanted. If that's his way of being oh so "mysterious" it didn't work out well for me. And then I got a hint of a love triangle (which I really hate) and I just couldn't take more.
I received a copy of the book to read and review.
Again, I loved Ian, Rayne, Patrick, Tara, and I like that I got to know Jaered. I learned a lot about him and seeing more of him answered a lot of questions that I had after finishing the first book. Although, I now have some other unanswered questions about other characters and what they are really doing.
I do think that it is important to read the first book before reading the second. I think if I would have just jumped to the second, I would have been very confused. I think it also help that I read the two books back to back, this way all characters and events ever fresh in my mind.
Again, Sue Duff did a great job writing an action packed book, that kept me from putting it down!
Then there is Ian. He is still fighting with his limitations and his love for Rayne. Ian keeps trying to keep everything going but just keeps running into one thing after another. Then, he is brought into a plot to help Patrick’s mother’s friend and her son disappear to keep him safe from the people that her husband has dealing with, Ian doesn’t realize how far into trouble he is going to be getting.
I really liked Masks & Mirrors. It was a great follow up to Fade to Black, but I do recommend reading them close to each other. I was a little lost and had to figure out what was going on in the first couple chapters. After that, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough; I just had to find out what is next.
This is a great series. I really like how nature and the Earth play into it without being too over bearing. There are great characters and I really like how there is so much more to them. This is one series that I recommend to readers of fantasy and paranormal romances. You will not be disappointed.
I received this book for free from Samantha Lien with Roger Charlie.
