Product Description

Mass Destruction is ASC Games' aptly named mission-based tank shooting game. You hop in one of three tanks and take on 24 different missions, each with its own set of objectives. During the course of the game, you pick up tons of different weapons and blow the hell out of anything that gets in your way.

The missions are fairly simple. There's usually some kind of military installation, and you've got to destroy it. Standing in your way is an army's worth of tanks, infantry, flamethrowers, bunkers, buildings, turrets, and helicopters. You must complete all the primary and secondary objectives and make your way to the extraction zone. Then it's on to the next mission for more of the same. While this may sound incredibly tedious, the sheer amount of destruction and death caused in each level keeps the game interesting, and the varied terrain (snow, desert, etc.) helps to keep the game fresh.

The graphics in Mass Destruction are quite good. Everything is rendered polygonally, from the tanks to the buildings to even the satellite dishes. A few things look a bit blocky, but it still looks pretty neat. The game moves very quickly, without a hint of slowdown, even when the entire screen is seemingly on fire. The sound is also really good. Explosions and gunfire sound very realistic, and the screams of troops as you run them over is a really nice touch.

Above all, Mass Destruction is good, clean fun. The mission-based gameplay brings a method to the madness, but one still gets the happy feeling of cruising around aimlessly in a tank and blowing up as many things as possible, friend or foe. Shooter fans should check it out, as should fans of EA's Strike series. --Jeff Gerstmann

I came across this one on a list of hidden gems online, and so took a chance. As I play yet more and more old Playstation era games, sometimes I really do feel like I'm sifting through the dross for the 50th time, and only getting more dross for my efforts. But not this time.

I happen to deeply love simple polygon graphics that are crisp and clear, and high resolution. It's saddened me many times over the years how instead of beautiful simple graphics, so often developers would instead makes games with overly complex graphics (complex texture maps) that looks absolutely terrible. But here...the palm trees look like their fronds are made of simple polygons. Everything has the complexity of say, a N64 game. But this is not lazy simplicity, but beautiful simplicity. Perfect.

The controls are simple, and so is the gameplay. There are other games like this, and they are often filled with narrow corridors to get stuck in, overpowered enemies that kill you in one or two hits on the first level, and frustrating gameplay. None of that is to be found here. Instead, you have sharp, responsive controls, fast, fun gameplay, and short, sweet levels that are an absolute blast to play.

If you are a fan of arcade-style games, like simple graphics (which are thankfully making a comeback these days), or just enjoy a good, simple, fun game without the frustration, this is the game for you. A true gem and highly recommended.

This game is an absolute blast. It's main objective is to simply destroy ... well, everything. Some missions have you rescue some hostages or "disable" certain generators but in general it's a destroy anything that's above ground and by doing so you get more points. It has an arcadey feel to it and the simple controls (digital or analog) really make this a "pick up and play" kind of game. Missions can be completed in 3 to 4 minutes but if you're a completionist like myself, it can easily extend up to 15+ minutes each. I do recommend that you take breaks between levels so you don't get bored with the repetitive nature of the game.

Overall, it's fun... really fun and you can download it from the PSN for $5.99 or get it even cheaper here on Amazon. I got mine for $1.29 with Totally worth it!
