But, the game is not a grand slam, as you can see by my 4-star rating. There is nothing I strongly dislike about the game, but I do find an arcade element has crept into the game. I have encountered several scenarios that include "almost but not quite" impossible serial jumps to progress to the ultimate goal. These can be rather frustrating.
As I stated above, I still enjoy this game immensely and look forward to finishing this one and seeing more in the ME:A series. I recommend this game to you if you enjoy science-fiction type shooters with a strong story element.
However, this game is confusing.
It seems like it wants to be a shooter and not an ActionRPG like the previous Mass Effect games. That makes the combat fun but the level up and weapon upgrade systems are ridiculously stupid. It seems to be a boring waste of hours and hours spent looking at and trying to upgrade your weapons and armor.
Also many of the missions are boring. Run to this place, talk to (blank), go get (blank) for them, return to them with item. That was a 30+ minutes process. Now do that again a hundred times.... Snooze. I did like many of the MAIN story missions but the overall plot related to the Kett is uninteresting. The Missions to explore planets are for the most part not that fun or interesting. Many of them are just the boring missions mentioned above. Most of the missions to find the missing arks ARE mostly fun. I also didn't really like the missions examining the 'robot life forms' you can find on most planets. Although I did like how that connected into the main plot in the end of the story.
Combat: A- (fun and quick and the jetpack adds a fun element to combat and gameplay)
Missions: C+ (The boring missions detract from the fun ones overall)
Menus: D- (This is the biggest let down overall. Navigating and using the menus just sucks honestly)
Overall: B- (Fun overall but has some negative aspects that drain some of the fun)
