In terms of negatives, sometimes the cutscenes are a bit slow in the sense that characters don't respond naturally, conversations are stilted and feel badly put together. Also there are occasional frame rate drops, but nothing major.
I got it for less than £8 following a recommandation from a friend who is a fan of the series. I didn't expect much, but for that price, I had to buy it. Worse case scenario, I get rid of it if I don't like it.
What a great surprise! I didn't put the controller down until the end and spent about 80h on the game having a lot of fun. I don't know the state of the game when it was released, but none of the negative critics applied to the fully patched game I played. They have obviously patched the hell out of it and I had far fewer bugs than playing The Witcher 3 or Skyrim.
Sure it is not perfect. Some facial expressions and dialogues aren't great. But one of the best part is the random characters interactions while you are exploring.
If you are looking for a beautiful and varied solo third person shooter with RPG elements and a good combat system at a very low price, you can't go wrong with this one.
It's true is not as good and complex in terms of story as its predecessors, but overall the game (now) is polished and finished as a AAA game should be, not bugs, quite smooth performance (only a few drops in frame rate in occasions) and a story that is not too bad.
Being able to jump and dodge is a nice added feature, combat feels dynamic and fun and planet explorations is not too bad, the car allows quite crazy hill climbing and with a few upgrades it will go whenever you want.
I can understand the bad reviews from its first year, but nowadays it's a pretty good find, and it's giving me lots of hours of gameplay.
This game sets up a whole lot for a sequel that is currently 'on ice', and would likely be much better and get some real pay offs. I'd be interested to see where it goes if it ever gets made. Shame bioware just up an ran from an IP, DLC and support cancelled. A slap in the face, considering the welcomed successful efforts of other devs/publishers (looking at you Ubisoft)
If you're a fan of the previous mass effects, temper expectations. Other than that, go ham, it's worth it on a sale.
It just lets the game down the story however is absolutely brilliant again this was let down by the developers not creating any dlc packs and poor sales figures
