Top Customer Reviews
First for the things I liked about the game. I really enjoyed the main plot. It really picks up when you reach where Meridian used to be. The squadmate interactions were fantastic, and they're a few cutscenes focusing on the squadmates improving their relationships, including a hilarious scene between Jaal and Liam. Also, the combat is pretty good. I think ME2 has had the best gameplay out off all the games, but the gameplay in this game is on par with ME3. Another thing I liked about the game was the visuals of the planets. They are absolutely beautiful at times, particularly Havarl, as well as Meridian. They're are also some beautiful cutscenes, and some amazing scenes of space battles.
Now, for the things I didn't like about the game. First is the technical issues. I saw a lot of reports of bad animations, and I didn't really have that problem, they were there, but not as bad as I had heard. I did have problems with other bugs, including one that completely erased my save data with the exception of my multiplayer data. I also had extreme frame rate issues, especially towards the end of the game. Sometimes things did not load correctly, including characters that would talk while they were inside walls or furniture. I also had a bug where my trophies wouldn't pop after I completed them. I looked up if others had this problem and I found where people were saying you need to be connected to the internet to have the trophies pop, but I had an internet connection where I completed story missions and I didn't get the trophies to pop.
Something else I didn't care for was the squadmates themselves. While their banter was fantastic, they were poorly written and I couldn't become invested in them as I did in the previous games. The loyalty missions for the characters I did like, and to me they were the only good side quests in the game. If you've played Dragon Age Inquisition the side quests in MEA are designed almost identically. I mentioned the worlds are nice to look at, but they are filled with boring things to do.
What I disliked the most about the game was the remnant vaults and the glyph puzzles. The glyph puzzles are basically Sudoku puzzles, and I found them more tedious and frustrating that fun. The remnant vaults were supposed to have good loot if you solved the hidden puzzles within them, but the loot I got made me angry for spending extra time trying to figure out the puzzles.
Right now I would only recommend this game for die hard fans, and before this game I was. If their is another ME game I will be more cautious about getting it. For anyone else I would wait until a major price drop, or even wait and see if their is going to be some kind of ultimate edition with all the DLC.
-the size of the worlds
-many (but not all of) the visuals
-most of the story
-multiplayer folding into the main story
-multiplayer... a lot of lag, repetition and just general confusion. On top of that it's just not engaging.
-fighting, not the best and not the worst
The bad - and the reason I'll probably never finish a game I pre-ordered over a year prior to release: The bugs... now I grew up in the original Nintendo era, I have a high tolerance for glitchiness and visual bugs... what I can't tolerate is bugs that prevent you from playing the game. What I have encountered so far:
-characters missing heads (okay)
-falling out the bottom of my spaceship into space and having to reload (amusing the first time)
-characters not appearing in cutscenes (okay I can pretend they are off screen)
-missing dialogue - this is where it starts to get frustrating - I have to make a choice and respond properly to things being said that aren't being said
-missing enemies - I ran through an entire planet more than once and not a single enemy loaded in. Had to restart the game 3 times to get the world to load properly
-missing quest givers/completion - okay so I found what you wanted... and now you are gone - oh sure the question mark is where you should be but I can't interact because you haven't loaded in... restart the game again until you load in and I can complete the quest
-can't interact with things facing the wrong way - want to talk to a companion that loaded in looking at the wall? can't do it - reload the game so that they show back up facing the right way
-items stuck in inventory - yeah that's supposed to be on my collections, but here it is in my inventory - forever
-Quests like "build this in development" that won't let you build them
In addition two of my friends have had their game go to a black screen - after that they have never been able to load that save again, meaning start over from the beginning or a previous save and hope that one loads.
So in the end, until they fix all of these issues (or at least the game stopping ones) I really can't recommend this game, even though when it's working it's a lot of fun.
