Mass Effect: Andromeda takes players to the Andromeda galaxy, far beyond the Milky Way. There, players will lead our fight for a new home in hostile territory as the Pathfinder-a leader of military-trained explorers. This is the story of humanity's next chapter, and player choices throughout the game will ultimately determine our survival.

Some stuff that fall flat that isn't much of a negative is that Andromeda feels small. Its much bigger than the milky way. Don't know why its smaller. The story and narrative lines are a complete bore that you kinda forget what your character is really doing because you have so much going on with the side missions that you'll forget the main story. Its just really uninteresting. The game is now patch so say bye bye to the bugs from the games early release. The game has something good going on but its unbalanced with the story and boring characters. The new alien species don't look interesting either. A lot of what goes on isn't all so interesting. I think the only way this game can hold a good rating would be if they do some free DLC updates of some sorts with mire interesting plots and writing. As of now its a very plain average game.
I take great umbrage with the open world concept. The Mass Effect trilogy hooked me in with sharp narrative, not this sprawling mess of a story that has no urgency to it. That's the most disappointing part of this game to me - the story. I understand where the game was coming from and where it was trying to go, but it was really poorly executed, hackneyed and derivative. None of the themes of the series rang true in ME:A and it really stuck out as an outlier.
I finished the game and set it down. I played each trilogy game half a dozen times, but I had had enough Andromeda after 1 play through.
Story was okay, but nothing special. Settings were nicely crafted, nice graphics and textures. Animations were a bit goofy at times, but mostly okay.
Worth a single play through. Just remember it's not really a Bioware game. It's EA. Remember that, and you will enjoy it more.
I really enjoyed the majority of the story. The main storyline was interesting and engaging. You play as Ryder, a human in the andromeda galaxy that leads the initiative in finding a home (or homes) for the travelers that came from the Milky Way. Each world you settle had it's own interesting story line but some things just left you scratching your head. Why put a giant monster in one world that you can't engage? That's just lazy and sloppy writing right there. Main plot points were never answered (benefactor?? don't really know much about the Jordaan, who are the Kett?). Some of the story lines behind some of your crew were just...lacking..more on that later. Overall the story was good, but there were so many details that weren't finished or fleshed out enough.
Here is where the game shines. They've refined the ME gameplay even further and made some drastic improvements. The worlds are amazing, beautiful, and the gameplay keeps you coming back and never gets boring or annoying. The Nomad is really fun. Graphics are great. Battle mechanics are good. Why it doesn't get a perfect score though is there are enough things here that detract from the overall experience. More than a few bugs to deal with. And I really thought the level up system could have been improved. Depending on how much you play you can easily max out your character several hours before the story line concludes.
Usually in bioware games (at least years ago) the characters and character developments were really a shining point in their games. The first 3 Mass Effect games and Dragon Age 1 really had some great characters. But since then...not so much. The characters were fine. Jaal was interesting I thought. Suvi and Kallo were nice side characters. Drak was fun. But the rest just didn't have a whole lot to offer. None were annoying so that was nice. But I could have used quite a bit more depth. And where were the quarians? Yeah i know their Ark hadn't shown up yet but that's sloppy. They were a favorite of mine. The crew member's sidequests were almost the exact same just in a different location. Very lazy. Peebee's I felt was the best but probably still doesn't hold a candle to the earlier ME's characters and their sidequests.
Overall 7.5/10 Definitely worth playing and I don't think it's as bad as many make it out to be. But at the same time I see where the haters are coming from. If you like the ME series then it's definitely worth a shot but if you've never played one before, it might be better to start with one of the others.
