If you are new to Mass Effect, it is a true adventure like never before. A beautiful blend of roleplay, action, exploration, and a multitude of decisions that have effects across all three games. Things you do in the first game will have effects all the way into the third game. Sometimes it will be a simple news report, or an email sent to you, other times it will effect how characters act toward you, or if the character is even alive.
If you are a veteran to Mass Effect looking to run though it again, this is a great find, except the DLC is weird for it in my opinion. The first Mass Effect has Bring Down the Sky, the second has the two extra characters and a couple missions, but not The Arrival or really any weapon or armor DLC and the third Mass Effect only has the multi-player and the extended endings, no other DLC.
Over all though it was fun to see the familiar faces and save the galaxy once again. So new or old to the game series, I would definitely say pick it up if you have some extra money laying around.
The best story driven sci-fi RPG franchise in gaming. I have played these games first on PC (the best way to play these games) and recently on PS3 after buying the trilogy edition.
The best way to experience these games is in sequence carrying over saves from one installment to the next. The game allows to play through the games as a male/female and as a Paragon (Lawful Good) or Renegade (Chaotic Good). Personally, I think the female version is better written and voice-acted.
While the latter games (2 & 3) have moved away from the RPG roots that began with the excellent Mass Effect 1, the tighter combat, excellent story, world and companions make up for it. Mass Effect 3 is my favourite as it is great to see my decisions carried over in a meaning way from the first two games and the culmination of these decisions (although the ending is disappointing, though not nearly as disappointing as other fans have made it out to be on the internet). But Mass Effect 2 is the superior overall game and is technically the best made game in the franchise so far.
I have not played the multiiplayer introduced in the third game and cannot comment on that.
Bioware is only company under EA whose games I look forward to and care about. Their Dragon Age - Inquisition is my most anticipated game for this year. You cannot go wrong with a Bioware game (even Dragon Age II).
If you're looking to truly get immersed in the game and have a decent PC, I would recommend getting the PC version. I've heard that it's a lot more refined.
So far I've only played through the first game and the beginning of the second.
The gameplay is very reminiscent of Knights of the Old Republic for XBOX. It is more story-driven than action-driven so if that is off-putting to you at all, it might not be for you.
The graphics are pretty solid. I don't usually care if the graphics are good or bad but they're not displeasing here.
The voice work in the game is tremendous with every line spoken. Very cool addition for a cinematic feel.
Overall it's a great buy for sci-fi fans who like a good story-driven game with great action intertwined. :)
TL,DR: Buy this for the story, not for the combat.
