UPDATE: They sent me another regulator for free with 2 day shipping. I raised my product rating because of this.
UPDATE #2: This is now dead after 2 months and between 5-10 hours of use. I am going to contact them again to replace the broken product.
Update #3: They have decent customer service at least. They are sending me a new compressor to replace the broken one for free.
It appears to be a well-built compressor, and very capable at doing the light work I am using it for (around 15-30 PSI). It is pretty quiet. I thought the manual was pretty sparse -- it doesn't really tell you a lot about using the compressor. At first I thought I had a problem with the regulator. I couldn't get it to reduce below 30 PSI. After Googling a bit I stumbled onto information that the regulator operates backwards from what is intuitive: to reduce the flow you turn counterclockwise. There are tiny raised letters on the handle that I noticed after the fact; the manual doesn't address that little detail.
The water trap does its job fairly well. In our humid summer air I got some water in the little jar, but I still got some sputtering and water after I'd been using it for a while and it was warmed up pretty good. I think the trap is located too close to the motor, so the water vapor is still pretty hot when it comes out and condenses on down the hose. Not a major problem, but I'll probably look for another trap farther down the hose.
After I ordered it I realized I wasn't quite sure if it would hook up to my Badger airbrush. I e-mailed TPC and received a quick reply with the part I would need to connect it. It would have been nice if the original compressor description led me down the path to adapter information -- I had to pay a few bucks for a second shipping charge on a $8 part.
I read all the reviews saying this compressor was hit or miss and decided to risk it for $70.
Turns out I got one of the bad ones. I'll be returning this to get a unit that isn't bargain basement.
My recommendation is to save yourself the hassle and buy a slightly more expensive unit with a good reputation like Iwata or Badger.
You live and you learn.
I LOVE THIS COMPRESSOR!!!
