Product Description

The Master Lock 110-120V plug lockout surrounds and grips the prongs of an electrical and combines with a padlock (sold separately) to help protect against plug connection during maintenance and repair, and fits two-prong 110-120 volt plugs with and without ground. When plug prongs are inserted into the lockout, its locking mechanism grips the prongs and exposes a locking hole that accommodates padlock shackle diameters up to 1/4" (6 mm). This lockout is made from a red polycarbonate for visibility and impact resistance, and includes three "DANGER" labels, one each in English, Spanish, and French. This device is part of a lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety procedure required at facilities where electrical plugs need to be isolated during maintenance and repair.

Lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety procedures require that lockout devices meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 1910.147(c)(5) standards for quality assurance. LOTO devices use color, warning labels or tags, and sometimes a physical barrier to help prevent machine operation or power activation during maintenance and repair.

Master Lock manufactures padlocks, combination locks, and related security products. The company, founded in 1921, is headquartered in Milwaukee, WI.

Got a few of these locks to lock down some of the electronics my teens had lost due to consequences for acting out. The locks fit nice over the prongs and are easily padlocked. The fact that these locks can simply be pulled off of the prongs renders them completely useless with teens or others that are tempted to test the security features. If you are looking to use them as a visual deterrent, they should work fine (hence two stars instead of one). If you want to actually stop others from using the plug you've locked down, don't bother using this product.

Unfortunately I have a horrible neighbor and I believe she uses our washing machine. I caught her trying to use my dryer. I was looking for something to stop her since we share the basement and the machines can not be moved from there. This is the perfect thing! If it is locked you can not take it off the plug. You need your own padlock.

A small bit of thin gauge wire is all that holds this product together. Lasted .5 hours with my small 3 year old daughter who simply pulled it in half, yanking the loop for the lock clean out of the housing. Not worth the time it takes to stick the lock in the loop and by far the worst Master Lock product I have seen in my life. One star is a bit overrated for the product.

My downstairs neighbors used to use my washer and dryer when I was not home. Their constant use caused my electricity bill to skyrocket and my gas bill as well due to the use of hot water. I solved the problem by shutting the breakers and pad locking the breaker box. I had verizon Fios installed and the tech decided to install my ONT where the washer and dryer are located since there was a convenient electrical outlet in this location. This presented a problem because I could no longer turn off the breaker to the washer since the ONT required constant power but could still turn off the dryer. After doing a lot of research I decided to purchase this item. Instead of turning off the breaker switch this product allows me to remove the plug from the outlet and pad lock the plug instead. The product works perfectly. I'm sure that this product can be disabled with a few strikes of a hammer or a hard twist from a vyse grips but doing so would also damage the plug itself. My downstairs neighbor have not been very cordial to me since I purchased this product and now I see them loading up their car every week with dirty laundry. I've never seen them do that before. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to see their faces whey the happened on this getup!

These lockouts are supposed to prevent someone from plugging an appliance into a outlet. The two power-carrying prongs of a standard wall plug insert into the plastic body and are locked in place if you attach a lock or some other block into the black plastic rod that is pushed out as the prongs are pushed in. Standard lockout stickers are included in the package. Since the assembly appears to be made entirely of plastic, do not expect the lock to keep out a determined mind. But for workplace environments, this sort of assembly can be useful to prevent accidental electrocutions when someone is working on an appliance.

Works as a visual cue only -- even with a padlock. Takes only minor effort -- even with a padlock - to remove. If visual is all you need, save your money, get a red piece of paper and write "don't plug this in!" on it and tape it to the cord. If you actually want to stop someone from using an electrical device then you'll need to buy something else. Dunno why they even bother making this, and it would not have been that hard to make one that had metal that would go through the holes in the plug and ACTUALLY lock it.

The lock out device works well to keep my kids off the TV set. They wouldn't listen to me, but this is enough deterrent to keep them off the TV. Keep in mind this doesn't include a padlock, so you have to get a standard padlock to use it.

Funny story- someone in my apartment building was using my washer in the public area of the basement. Obviously this ran my energy bill up and got in the way of me doing my laundry. Solution- same thing we did at a factory I worked at. Lock it out!

I was really happy to see that they made the 110-120V lockouts at a reasonable price as I am used to using the bigger industrial lockouts. This was a perfect civil solution to an uncivil problem.
