It will work as a coupler locking pin but the plastic head can be easily knocked off the metal shaft with a small hammer. So don't rely on this to prevent your trailer from being stolen.

I have had this lock for a long time. I recently went to retrieve my trailer from storage, and I forgot my keys so I decided that breaking the lock would be cheaper than driving home to get the keys. I used a regular claw style hammer and with two light hits on the lock, the pin sheared off where the pin narrows. It was removed in less than 5 seconds and with very little effort. Don't rely on this cheap $10 lock to protect your $1,000++ trailer and contents.

I own 3 of these locks. Yes they are purely a detterant, but then again so is any lock. I like how thin and easy to slide through the trailer hole it is. I also use it to secure my motorcycles to my PitBull trailer mount. This is the only lock that is thin and long enough to replace the OEM non-locking pin. In response to all the reviews where it is difficult to get off, I have 3 of these sitting outside through winter summer wind, rain ice, snow. All you do is turn the key fully in the opposite direction and then wiggle the key back and forth a little bit and it slides right off. Annoying . . . I suppose, but not the end of the world, its $10!!!

My son decided to "borrow" my trailer. Later, upon asking him where the lock was for the trailer, he told me "a pair of Channelock pliers and 20 seconds later it was his". Thank goodness it wasn't a thief.

I generally shy away from writing VERY NEGATIVE reviews, but I just wouldn't feel right not warning the public regarding this item. The product's main selling point for me was the ability to rekey all of the locks to the same key. I wanted to use them on my camper for security while still maintaining the convenience of a single key. With this in mind I purchased the Master Lock Python Rekeying Kit No. 8491.. The kit, like the ad on Amazon, promised that I would be able to rekey these locks. I consider myself to have adequate skills to accomplish the task as I used to run a bicycle repair shop when I was young, I've been renovating homes for over 30 years and I recently successfully built a Windows Server from the ground up. I list these accomplishments not to brag, but rather to assure the reader that I have some technical skill. The instructions in the rekeying kit seemed adequate, but I had problems from the start. Despite dialing all over my large metropolitan area, I couldn't find a locksmith with any experience with these products. So I called Master Lock Customer Service.. To say they were absolutely no help would be charitable. The technical manual they e-mailed for these locks and the kit was an exact reflection of the instructions in the kit. So I tried to call the company that sold me the rekeying kit. Apparently they just sell the stuff and have no clue how to operate it. Looking back to the Master Lock website there were no dealerships in the entire State of Florida. So I went to Youtube, nothing helpful. Then I asked my favorite search engine multiple questions and came up with an old manual on the Python Series. Believe it or not there were several comments that assisted in removing the cylinder plug from the lock housing. I was able to rekey the plug.Read more ›

it is a deter ant in the fact someone can tell they have to break it off but when the lock mechanism would not allow me to open the lock after 2 months i had to break it off. wrenched on it a few times and snap, it broke apart!

I bought this lock for my utility trailer to fit on my new coupler. Well I kept an eye on the keys that came with it. But then those keys got tired of riding around in my truck, so they just got up and walked off. So when I had to use the trailer, only then did I find out that the keys were no longer able to be found. So I got deseperate and got out my hacksaw and within 3 minutes, it was off of my trailer. So if you think this is going to stop someone who really wants your trailer, like me, you are going to find out the hard way about realityMaster Lock 2847DAT Stainless Steel Adjustable Coupler Latch Lock. The lock is only going to stop the casual thief. I have attached the remains of the lock.

Bought this about 3 months ago worked grate till one point it started getting stuck everytime I tried turning the key. after so much forcing trying to wiggle the key it decided to bent so now I'm unable to unlock or lock it luckily I was able to find this out after I took it off my trailer which took about half and hour. I use my trailer every weekend to give you an idea of how often I use the master lock 2847DAT now to find another brand worth the money
