I bought a used 2008 Mercedes GL320 and was highly disappointed to find that it had very little antitheft or anti-vandalism security with no wheel locks or tamper alarm that I can find. For a $70K Sticker Price vehicle with most of all the options including GPS, I had to determine which McGard locks would work even though none were listed, and after evidence of several attempts to break in or steal fuel became worried about parking in unsecure lots and even in my driveway overnight.

i went to a well known professional installer and was told that Mercedes are very difficult to install alarm systems on, usually taking abut 6 hours. I was told that Mercedes might have an add on module that allow me to use my current key fob opener. I check with Mercedes and they didn't seem to know what i was taking about, but found a Codalarm unit that was supposed to work (approx $600 installed).

I saw this Master Lock and decide to give it a try. It was fairly easy to install even though my battery not under the hood, and although i have to use the extra key remote, it works well in providing an attention getting alarm with any tampering which is what i needed. My vehicle may have been difficult to steal, but now it is also difficult to enter or tamper with even if an expert can bypass my factory security. With about a 20 minute installation, the product is a great, cheap addition without the worry of having your vehicle computer system ruined by a bad installation of a fancier system.

I also looked at the Bull Dog systems at a parts store, but they were given poor reviews and have been happy with this model so far.

I wanted an alarm for my VW camper and did not want to mess with the wiring harness as I already have wiring problems in the van. I found that for this van (which the battery is under the passenger seat) the alarm installed easy. It seems to work, just not every time. It may be that I have to tune it. For what I got I think this unit is over priced and is a poor value. Still I am semi-satisfied and will keep the unit. I would not recommend this unit to a friend.

after using this for some time now, I like it. I don't think it is sold by Masterlock though. The alarm is not very loud, but OK for a cheap alarm. There is an extra wire labeled IGNITION and I found out from a website that it is unnecessary...just snip it off. The instructions are not good. I turned the tiny screw in the cigarette lighter thing to make it more sensitive so it even went off with a loud thunderclap or someone bumping the car. The key ring thing has a top button (small) and a lower button (large). The small button doesn't do anything. The large button beeps the alarm once to UNLOCK and twice to LOCK.

It's a great idea and think it could work, or apparently does for some (?), --if they fully understand what's supposed to work (not sure from the reviews).

I see the "installer" gets blamed for not setting the side screw for the inside vehicle pressure switch,----*not valid here. Here's my experience:

1)
I went to the "Masterlock" web sight for support and could not find this unit anywhere. The special URL under the products name in the instructions redirects to their main sight, and searching produces irrelevant hits (there or anywhere).

I went there per the instructions for the "adjustment" instructions. (Adjustments?, there's only one documented.)

The third party "reviews", or "help" only comment to turn the screw on the pressure sensor clock wise for more "sensitive" setting. It arrived all the way in and did not "Alarm". I sat in the Vehicle, "Armed", and actually so tight, my ear and hair on the Drivers Door side got that "swoosh" from normal door opening, and did not "Alarm" on full "Sensitivity".

2)
I had a Volt Meter attached, and with significant drop, no "Alarm".

3)
The "bump" alarm did work.

However, as describe here from others, with a *hard door slam -- I mean with more force needed then to simply close the door -- the vehicle did have to visibly move with a jolt to sound. So yes a "tap" (?, define "tap") would set it off.

4)
Moreover:
No instruction on how *long it would alarm, so was concerned it may *drain my battery, since *all 3rd party input said the only way to stop it was to use the remote or pull the Fuse (or add a switch?, I'd guess). I don't live in an area that I could sit with it "Alarming" to see how long or if it would "time out" (?).

Had this for a couple of years now. I use it to protect my work truck, tools and test equipment. My truck does have an intrusion alarm if the door is opened without disabling it with the factory key-fob. Most of the theft in my area is breaking a window and grabbing what they can. I did not mount the siren under the hood, but in my house with a 12VDC power supply I had around. I do not know how well the siren would stand up on the roads I drive on for work and this is the reason it is installed in my house. My truck is park about 40 feet from the siren and it works fine. The siren is also loud enough to hear outside and did scare away the bad guy recently when he broke my window and try to steal something. Once every few weeks I test it by taping on a window in my truck and it has always worked. Sometimes it does not go off when opening the door but my factory alarm system would kick in. The only complaint I have about this unit is that it thunder has set it off once. As a added bonus I got this for about $40 on clearance.
