The lock is quite heavy and I'm sure will deter thieves. However,when we received only 2 keys for 3 locks, we thought it was defective. I contracted Amazon and they sent us a replacement. But, it also only had 2 keys. Apparently Masterlock thinks you only need 2 keys for 3 locks. That wasn't what I had in mind. I need a key for each lock.

These are good general purpose locks with a longer shackle. My use was for locking up my RTIC 40 to the leaning post in my boat. I can fit through the built in locking hole in the cooler and include a 1/2 inch steel cable. I like having three keyed alike. Two for the cooler, one for misc use around the boat. This works as a trailer hitch lock, as the brass ones are too small for mine. I expect a modest lifetime. Probably will need WD40 or 3in1 now and again.

I would not call these high security locks. Many bolt cutters can tackle these. They are more of a deterrent for the casual thief, trespasser, etc. Little determination and common tools will beat it. I expected this, and I am totally ok with that. I just want to deter the casual thief. If someone really wants my cooler, they can have it. I would rather they don't damage the boat in the process.

Excellent locks for the money

I needed something with a long shackle for my backyard fence gate so it could fit around the handle. I also needed two locks (one for each gate) and this lock fit my needs with the key fitting each lock. I just now have an extra third lock I can use where ever else I could use one. They seem to be very strong. I believe these locks will be sufficient from keeping someone from breaking into my property. They can be used for indoor or outdoor use. I knocked off one star for one complaint I have about this set. The package only contained two keys when there are three locks in the package. I would have liked there to be another key included. However, you can just get another key made at a hardware store if you need a third one. These are excellent locks for the money. I shopped around and they are cheaper on Amazon than at a hardware store, Target or Walmart. I would highly recommend these Master locks and buy them again if I needed anymore.

EDIT: After another 15 months, these locks are still going strong. After a while the key was difficult to turn once in the lock. We get a lot of dust in the air here and I think the dust got inside the lock. However, there was an easy fix for this. I sprayed some WD-40 in the lock and it worked like new after that. I have only had to spray the WD-40 once.

Be careful in the cold

I purchased these just in time for winter. I used one on a lifetime shed and the shackle fit, but has to be maneuvered a bit when removing. The lock feels solid, nothing you wouldn't expect from a Master Lock.

There are only two keys, not three. Not a big deal to me, but something you might want to know.

As for the performance of the lock, I have had the tumbler freeze on me. The lock is 5 feet off the ground and is not in contact with snow. On two different occasions, I have placed the key inside and the lock has failed to turn. I breathed on the lock for about 30 seconds and it seemed to do the trick. At both times, it had been below 20 degrees outside, so that might have been the main cause.

I'm sure there are better locks out there, but for the price, this is a great deal.

Beyond annoying. Needed three locks keyed alike for separate locations. Went through the hassle of opening, and taking locks to their various locations, when I found that one of the locks was defective. The key didn't come close to fitting in to getting it opened/installed. I'd have returned all three, but for the time and effort already required to get two of them in place. What a pain.

We then tried some other locks with numbers or letters, that did not work well as you can't change the factory setting and we had to memorize 3 different sets of numbers or letters. My husband finally bought these ones, they fit perfectly in our gate latches! 1 key, 3 locks for 3 different gates, they are exactly what we needed.
