This is where the MASTER TODOIST book by Steve Scott steps in to do what most books failed at: provide a “How to use a simple app to create actionable to-do-lists” manual that can be covered in just a few hours and have you on your way to creating better to do lists and managing your work on a new level.
As Steve says about Todoist from the beginning:
"Todoist is the perfect tool for managing all your day-to-day tasks. It has a simple design that allows you to start using it within the first five minutes of downloading it. But it’s flexible enough to manage sophisticated projects that involve numerous steps and multiple team members."
As we soon learn about Todoist, it has a simple application that allows users to dive in right away. there are no long explanations or complicated wizardry to figure out with this app. It has an easy-to-use level of functionality that anyone, regardless of their tech know-how, can get to work right away. The reasons we have a book to learn about this is, there are many cool features that people fail to use. Also, if you use Todoist incorrectly, this app can actually hinder your productivity.
The core of the content in this book will teach you how to:
*Identify the activities that are most important for your personal and professional life
*remember every single date-specific meeting and personal obligation
*create projects with clearly identifiable next steps
*use Todoist to remove the distractions and “noise” that prevent you from focusing on your big-picture activities
*implement the advanced features to streamline the most precious asset that you possess—your time
The Bottom line is, if you are trying to simplify your life and break away from the paper and pen lifestyle, this is definitely the way to go. You can manage complex tasks and projects while scheduling everything right in the app itself. What I love is the “no more paper” idea that, when you get used to using this app because of the easy to follow instructions here, you’ll save money on notebooks.
The book is written to simplify your life.
As Steve says about his experience with the app:
"As someone who is a recovering pen-and-paper, Post-It Notes for every task, kind of guy, I was drawn to Todoist because I was trying to simplify my life. After a bit of a learning curve, I now use it to manage every task and project in my life. In fact, I use Todoist so much that it’s constantly open on all of my devices—i.e., my iPhone, tablet, and laptop computer."
As Steve points out from the beginning, there are 8 core benefits to using the app:
#1. Todoist is available on ALL major platforms.
#2. Todoist uses push notifications that act as important reminders.
#3. Todoist uses cloud storage to protect your tasks.
#4. Todoist offers an inexpensive premium version.
#5. Todoist is constantly updated.
#6. Todoist has a distraction-free design.
#7. Todoist provides one central location for all your information.
#8. Todoist allows for easy collaboration.
Steve gets into the basics of the app right away and the various features it utilizes. The book is a very clear step-by-step instructional guide that you can’t now wrong if you follow it. There is also screenshots of all the action steps to provide a more visual walk through of how to set everything up.
The book covers in detail how to:
* Identify the activities that are most important for your personal and professional life
* Remember every single date-specific appointment, meeting, and personal obligation
* Create projects with clearly identifiable next steps
* Use Todoist to remove the distractions and "noise" that prevent you from focusing on your big-picture activities
* Implement the advanced features to streamline the most precious asset that you possess -- your time
One of the best part of the book focuses on how to manage your MITs [Most Important Tasks]. Steve’s suggestion is: Pick one to three MITs that absolutely must be completed by the end of the day. Two should relate to an urgent project with an immediate deadline, and one should be part of a long-term goal.
As we are shown, Todoist makes it super simple to identify your MITs. You can get started by reviewing your list of upcoming tasks in the morning. Then, identify the three that will have the biggest impact on your life and rank them, using the Priority feature in Todoist.
BUT, the real gold here, the section that I found to be the most valuable, is on PROJECTS.
Here Steve Scott walks readers through the steps he uses to set up parent projects, actionable projects, and how to focus on “What’s the next action?”
The last section is about 23 Advanced Strategies to Maximize Your Todoist Experience.
if you’d like to save time or make your life a little bit easier, then these 23 strategies can be invaluable. By reading this section, you will realize there are many interesting hacks you can use to maximize your Todoist experience.
So, what is the final word on TODOIST MASTERY?
As wil all of Steve’s books, TODOIST MASTERY is a cut-to-the-chase, no-fluff book filled with actionable content, strategies and sage advice for simplifying your life with an app that is well worth the investment. I have personally been using this for the past six months and it is everything the author says it is. So check it out.

However, I got the audible book as well and did not think it was a great fit... announcing acronyms and long lists meant as an index or for reference just doesn’t work in audio in my opinion.
Great informative book.

Whilst some of it may be a bit unnecessary (Todoist is mostly an intuitive program to use) there is plenty in here that one might not easily guess or discover, at least for quite a while.
Todoist has really helped my life, seriously. I have been using it, every day, on three devices since about October (three months) and honestly am sure I have gotten far more done than I would have without.
And this book was well worth buying for helping me get even more from it.
