Huge difference from stock heat sink / fan

It was time to build myself a new PC and switch back to PC gaming from consoles, especially with the launching of next gen consoles. The machine will also be used for graphic design, rendering and encoding. Purchased the AMD FX-8350 with the intent of not overclocking it for now and stick with its stock heat sink and fan. For the first few weeks, the stock cooling ramped up on the RPM for fan speed when I played most games (ie. Bioshock: Infinite, Crysis 3, etc.), and this included when encoding video. It was unbelievably loud to where I began to fear something was not right. Built an identical system for the girlfriend but with a different case which included more case fans. Hers was not as loud (though at times I could hear the fan speed up but not as often). I purchased a few 120mm case fans and installed them. It was not much help. Since the initial build I was looking at this Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus based on the reviews. After the first few weeks of dealing with the noise I purchased the EVO version per the PLUS being discontinued or out of stock.

This was my first time switching cooling systems per always using stock for every build I put together. The instructions were easy to read and it was separated depending on what type of processor you had. Still not 100% confident I YouTubed a video tutorial based on the type of processor I had and followed it step by step. It did take me about 1 - 2 hours to switch it completely over (again, due to not wanting to make any mistakes).

This cooler only comes with one fan but includes the additional clips to attach another 120mm fan. Also, this heat sink is huge! I've seen pictures online and knew it was bigger than stock but didn't realize it was a lot bigger. I had to take out the top two 120mm case fans due to the case not having enough room but did place one of them as the second fan on this cooler and set it up to where the airflow goes through the heat sink for better cooling.

I turned on my system for the first time after installing this. It was whisper quiet. Loaded some games, rendered, encoded. Quiet. The fans did not even need to ramp up. I placed my hand a few inches from the back of the case where there's a fan pulling air out and could feel warm air coming out (which is what it's suppose to be). Read the temperatures within the BIOS and within Windows. It was extremely cool. This thing is beautiful and definitely worth the low price to keep things quiet.

6 heatpipes makes this the obvious choice

i went with this over the D92 cooler for my skylake build because that one has 4 heatpipes and this one has 6.
pros:
- super quiet because it is so efficient the fan never even has to kick up.
- direct contact COPPER hearpipes
- price is very good

cons:
-very tricky installation must use pliars to properly tighten the base screws otherwise it will not sit completely still.
- decently heavy should not be travelling attached to your mobo or it will snap it.
the metal fins constructions feels on the cheap side, and they are not 45 degree angled around the heatpipes like the amazon description says they are.
- it is very bulky which makes it very difficult to install without airbubbles in the thermal paste
- its weight makes it slider around the CPU quiet easily so must be careful with that when sitting your pc upright
- do not tighten too much because it feels like it has no threshold and overtightening will snap your cpu especially the skylake with thinner pcb

conclusion: this product is a bit of a gamble when comparing it to the Noctua quality coolers. but for the price you wont find another 6 heatpipe cooler. installation requires more labor than it says in the instruction manual. and a ton of finesse.
if anything changes with the status will update, but so far its good.

Great Cooler with a little trick during install

My specs:
Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe Motherboard
Intel i7-2700K overclocked to 4.4GHz
LGA1155 socket
32 gigs DDR3 Crucial RAM (4 blocks of 8 gig each)
2 gig EVGA GTX 760 SC with ATX
ANTEC 9000 full size gaming case

Prior to adding this cooler, my system was constantly overheating above 72C when running handbrake, and games like Sims 3, Dragon Age Infinite, and most recently, Fallout 4. I couldn't play Fallout 4 for more than a half hour without my fans running like mad and my system freezing or force restarting. This was with the processor running at stock 3.6GHZ

After installing, under Prime95 stress test my CPU never elevated above 50C. I played Fallout4 for four hours straight with no skips, freezing, or restarts. In fact, my fans never elevated above a slight whisper. This remained the same even after modestly overclocking to 4.4GHZ.

This cooler is worth every cent if overheating is preventing you from enjoying game playing. My case is 8.1 inches wide and the cooler fit fine, though I had to relocate my side case fan to the back of the cooler. It comes with a 120mm fan, but you can use whatever fan or fans you want. Fans are dampened with rubber pads and very quiet.

Install issues:
This was simple to install. Search youtube and you will find step-by-step install instructions. This was my first cooler-install and it went without much issue. One IMPORTANT note, though. Instructions aren't clear but make sure when installing the brackets to the standoffs, the nubs should be pointed toward the motherboard with the concave stamped sides facing out from the motherboard. It looks like you are putting them in upside down, but if you don't do it this way, the brace locks will slip off the brackets once tightened and the cooler will slip off. This is really important and will save you a lot of headaches and swearing. Besides that, super easy install.
