No one disputes the delicious flavor of a deep-fried turkey, but stories of house fires and near misses can discourage even the biggest fried turkey fan. Enter the Masterbuilt Butterball indoor turkey fryer, an electric fryer that's so safe it's certified to operate indoors, on your kitchen countertop, any time of year. The Butterball features a one-of-a-kind design that's engineered to keep you safe. Not only do the black outer shell and porcelain-coated inner pot keep oil safely contained, but it also uses 33 percent less oil than conventional fryers. As a result, you can cook turkeys as large as 14 pounds safely and efficiently, with little threat of oil boiling over the sides.
Powerful and Attractive
The black-finished fryer looks great in a modern kitchen, as it complements most kitchen appliances and countertop materials. Chefs might even want to leave it on display when it's not in use. For convenience, the Butterball includes a window for turkey monitoring. Simply fold back the lid for easy access and you can watch your turkey cook to a perfect crisp.
The good looks accompany a powerful 1,650-watt electric heating element that heats up the oil in less than 30 minutes. Using the sturdy turkey basket, you can cook a 14-pound turkey in only four minutes per pound--less than an hour of cooking time. Masterbuilt also added a drain clip to the fry basket. With the drain clip, you can hang the basket on the side of the fryer while the turkey drains and cools. The clip makes it easy to move the turkey to a serving platter without making a huge oily mess.
No Ordinary Turkey Fryer
Operating the Butterball couldn't be easier. Simply set the cooking temperature via the user-friendly control panel, then set the built-in digital timer to track the cooking time. A green ready light will come on when the oil is heated and the fryer is ready for use. After you lower the turkey into the oil, the timer will beep to let you know when it's done. The fryer even includes a couple of extra safety controls, including a thermostat control to keep the temperature steady (up to 375 degrees F) and an automatic shutoff function that activates when the cooking temperature gets too high.
The Butterball isn't just for turkeys. You can prepare an endless variety of foods in the fryer--from hot wings and fried fish to corndogs and fries for the kids. You can also fill the fryer with water to steam or even boil your favorite dish. Other options include inviting the whole family over for a large low-country boil, steaming fresh crab legs for two, or even trying your hand at frying desserts like doughnuts, apple turnovers, and fried ice cream.
Additional turkey fryer highlights include a built-in filter to reduce cooking odors, a drain valve for easy cleaning, a hideaway storage compartment, and a space-saving design that takes up minimal space on the counter. The fryer measures 15.7 by 14.2 by 14.6 inches (W x H x D) and carries a 90-day limited warranty.
The black-finished fryer is one of three fryers in the Butterball indoor fryer series. Also available are a stainless-steel fryer with the same capacity as the black model and an extra-large fryer that handles turkeys up to 20 pounds.
Editor’s note: The power cord on this model has a hideaway storage compartment that can be tricky to find.

My only issue is the clean up. I have what you would consider 'standard' size double sinks in my kitchen, and it's very difficult to clean this thing in less than a 1/2 hr-45 minutes because I cannot fit the whole thing in my sink as you would other things that is covered with oil. It's not the end of the world, but sometimes that keeps me from using it because I know if I do, I'm gonna be standing at the sink for a while. I think if you're fortunate enough to have bigger sinks that most newer kitchens have, along with a sprayer (another thing I don't have), then it wouldn't be as big an issue for you.
I haven't ran into any issues of the fryer shorting out or any issues with the plug as some other reviewers. I do understand that this is something that has happened after a few uses, so I'll be keeping an eye out for these issues and report back if anything like that happens. As of right now...I love this fryer!
Easy to set up, it uses only two to three gallons of oil. We cooked a ten pound turkey(must be completely thawed) in forty minutes. It was a gorgeous --golden brown and could have graced the cover of a magazine. But most amazing of all was the juciness. The skin was crisp but the meat cooked to mouth watering perfection. Since then I have fried chicken, turkey and even prime rib roast, with the same succulent result.
Draining the oil is easy. There is a valve and an attachable spout that makes emptying a snap. The unit is compact and can be stored on a countertop.
I recomend this fryer. It is versatile and can be used for a wide variety of foods and steaming. Most importantly, the reslts are uniformly excellent.
The fryer was very easy to use, although because of the extremely short cord and nervousness of a possible oil spill (Exxon part 2. LOL) we opted to use it in the laundry area with an extension cord.
The turkey was really good! Very moist and the injected marinade we tried (a cajun blend) was incredibly spicy! Maybe a bit too much for me. The next day my pressure shot sky high from the salt. So we probably used a bit too much. Also the area immediately surrounding the site of injection was probably overloaded with the spices while the area just a bit away was basically void of the flavor. So the marinade didn't spread as it probably should have. That's not really to do with the ability of this fryer, just as a warning to any newbies that it's probably best to do tiny bits of injections all over the turkey than pump more liquid into fewer places presuming that the marinade will evenly disperse.
While this 10lb bird was enough for us, if we had been having company we would have had to do a second bird, that's the only real down side. It does say it can handle a 14lb turkey though the 10 pounder looked like it was JUST getting in there, but even with a 14lb bird it still wouldn't have been enough to feed a large gathering. I did see though there was a DX version of this cooker that says it can handle larger birds, so guess that's an option.
All in all definitely worth the price and highly recommended!
I was able to fry a chicken and it did come out nice .
The thing I don't like about frying food, is the smell afterwards in house.
I thought this unit would prevent the odor, for me it did not.
You can not leave this sitting on the counter with oil in it waiting for the next time you are going to fry something.
You need to empty it and clean it to get the odor out of the house.
That wastes a lot of oil and oil is not cheap these days.
So for frying things like french fries , smaller portions this is not the unit to use.
Next time I use the unit for frying I'll put it on the patio to prevent the odor in the house.
I have not tried it as a steamer yet, I'm sure it is fine for that.
You do need counter space that doesn't have cupboards above it to use the unit.
For me this product is not something I would have bought if I knew then what I know now.
