Butterball Indoor Electric Turkey Fryer
Masterbuilt, along with Butterball, the experts in turkey, collaborated to bring a collaborative product line of indoor fryers that provides a safe, hassle-free way for people to enjoy delicious fried turkey - all in the comforts of your own home. The versatility of the Butterball Indoor Electric Turkey Fryer by Masterbuilt lets you make delicious meals that your family and friends are sure to love, all year long. Whether it's for a Sunday night gathering, preparing foods to eat to watch for the big game, game-day tailgates or a family Thanksgiving meal, the Butterball Indoor Electric Turkey Fryer is a crowd favorite!
No one disputes the delicious flavor of a deep-fried turkey, but stories of house fires and near misses can discourage even the biggest fried turkey fan. The Butterball Indoor Electric Turkey Fryer by Masterbuilt, an electric fryer that's so safe it's certified to operate indoors, on your kitchen countertop, any time of year. The Butterball features a one-of-a-kind design that's engineered to keep you safe. Not only does the stainless-steel fryer and porcelain-coated inner pot keep oil safely contained, but it also uses 33 percent less oil than conventional fryers. As a result, you can cook turkeys as large as 14 pounds safely and efficiently, with little threat of oil boiling over the sides. The XL edition can accommodate up to a 20-pound turkey. The Butterball collection includes not only fryers but marinades and spices, along with cooking accessories for use in frying the best-tasting turkey you’ve ever eaten!
Powerful and Attractive
The stainless-steel fryer looks great in a modern kitchen, as it complements most kitchen appliances and countertop materials. Chefs might even want to leave it on display when it's not in use. For convenience, the Butterball has a one-piece lid that is completely removable for easy handling and clean-up.
The good looks accompany a powerful 1,650-watt electric heating element that heats up the oil in less than 30 minutes. Using the sturdy turkey basket, you can cook a 14-pound turkey in only four minutes per pound--less than an hour of cooking time! Masterbuilt also added a drain clip to the fry basket. With the drain clip, you can hang the basket on the side of the fryer while the turkey drains and cools. The clip makes it easy to move the turkey to a serving platter without making a huge oily mess.
No Ordinary Turkey Fryer
Operating the Butterball couldn't be easier. Simply set the cooking temperature via the user-friendly analog control panel; a green ready light will come on when the oil is heated and the fryer is ready for use. The fryer even includes a couple of extra safety controls, including a thermostat control to keep the temperature steady (up to 375°F) and an automatic shutoff function that activates when the cooking temperature gets too high.
The Butterball isn't just for turkeys. You can prepare an endless variety of foods in the fryer--from hot wings and fried fish to corndogs and fries for the kids. You can also fill the fryer with water to steam or even boil your favorite dish. Other options include inviting the whole family over for a large low-country boil, steaming fresh crab legs for two, or even trying your hand at frying desserts like doughnuts, apple turnovers, and fried ice cream.
Additional turkey fryer highlights has venting located in the back of the fryer, a drain valve for easy cleaning, and a space-saving design that takes up minimal space on the counter. The stainless-steel fryer is one of two fryers in the Butterball indoor fryer series.

I primarily switched to the electric fryer as I was getting tired of spending hours out in the cold (sometimes rain) frying turkeys on Thanksgiving. The drawbacks of the propane method at the time were exposure to the weather, wind blowing out the flame, and having to use a large amount of peanut oil (5 gallons - Thanksgiving 2012 peanut oil hit $60 for almost 5 gallons), cleanup of equipment, and safety,
I decided to give the XL Masterbuilt Butterball fryer a try for Thanksgiving 2013 and cooked two turkeys in it Thanksgiving Day.
Here is what I liked about this electric fryer:
1) Safer (no open flame) and you use it indoors (out of the weather and wind).
2) Drain port makes it easy to clean up when you are finished.
3) Built in timer to let you know when to take the turkey out of the fryer (or at least check it).
4) Can cook the same size turkey with less oil.
5) Hot oil remains covered while turkey is frying so no spatter.
Here is what I did not like about this electric fryer compared to propane turkey frying:
1) Limited to 375 degrees. Propane can go up to 400 degrees. This is important as when adding a room temperature turkey to the fryer the oil temperature is reduced significantly.
2) The electrical cord is ridiculously short and since the cord must come from the front of the unit and proceed to an outlet you are limited on where you can use this fryer. Using an extension cord is not recommended as it will steal power away from the the heating element (and you cannot afford this with this fryer).Read more ›
This fryer is nothing short of awesome! Filled it with 2 gallons of peanut oil and turned it on at noon Thanksgiving day. Put the turkey in at 1pm and, at promptly 1:40pm, we raised out of the oil a beautiful 'crispy brown on the outside - moist and juicy on the inside' turkey. The big bonus for me was that I never left the comfort of my kitchen and was fully able to work on finishing all of the trimmings while the turkey fried. No more running in and out of the back door, checking to make sure that the oil temp was just right or worrying that one of the children would slip away for a moment and get near the dangerous pot and flame!
The fryer is large, but really not nearly as big as I feared that it would be. I did have to use it on the bar area of the counter because my cabinets over the rest of the space did not allow the lid to open fully. It did take the better part of 50 minutes for the oil to heat, and it was at room temp prior to pouring it in the fryer. The temp recovered very quickly when the turkey was placed in the oil, and frying never slowed a bit for the cook time of 40 minutes. The spices that were sprinkled on the turkey prior to frying stayed on the bird. There was no oily smell in the house either before or after using the fryer.
The spigot to empty the oil made cleanup a breeze! The recovered oil was very clean and re-useable.Read more ›
When the fryer tub is empty I just put it into the sink and pour in hot soapy water, it's a bit bulky but it works. We don't have a dishwasher so I clean it by hand. The rest of the fryer is wiped down with a damp, soapy cloth then dried. We love cooking turkeys, chicken, potatoes, taquitos, and even home made corn dogs in this fryer!
*11/2/14- Recommend 100%! Have no regrets whatsoever having bought this fryer, we still love it! :) :)
*Edited to add: 11/30/13 Thanksgiving turkey didn't have skin as crispy on the top as our test turkey. Still cooked quickly,...larger bird but it still cooked in 62 minutes. :D Tasted great! Since this fryer can cook a bird up to 20 lbs. we bought an 18 lb. bird this time. The last one was about 14 lbs. The smaller bird was completely under the oil so I think that is why the skin was crispier. The larger bird had a bit at the top that wasn't completely submerged. The skin was cooked but not crisp except for the parts under the oil.
Our family likes the fried turkey the best, and it is faster, so I think we will be using this to cook our turkeys from now on. No more messing with the bird, and basting. Had more time to spend with the family and spent less time in the kitchen!Read more ›
