I have a BFA in Photography, and have been in a darkroom since I was 8 years old, however, I haven't picked up a camera in many years, and certainly don't claim to be knowledgable on digital photography. I replaced my old manual film Pentax K1000 with a Nikon digital camera and had a very hard time trying to convert my knowledge of film into digital photography. This book was very helpful, very clear and concise. The cut away pictures of the camera are very neat, I don't think I had ever seen those before. This book helped convert my knowledge of film into digital and I feel more comfortable using my digital camera. It gives very clear explanations on metering, focusing, and white balance. I think this book would be great for a beginner or even a person with photography experience but not digital cameras. Great book!

I want to start this review by giving a sincere thank you to the author, Al Judge. As a former photography student who learned almost nothing over a two year period, I can now say that I fully understand the terminology and possess the technical skill to take better photographs and possibly revisit my dream of becoming a sports photographer. Mastering Digital Cameras reads like a textbook only better. It contains all of the information of the best college level textbooks but is actually easy to understand. The only curriculum this book follows is that of a master photographer like Al Judge. And the best part about it is that you don't need to have any previous photography experience to be able to pick up this book and learn how to choose and use a new camera. If you are a seasoned pro, you can still learn a thing or two from this book, but if you are new to photography you will learn more just by reading this book than anyone can ever teach you in a formal class. For someone like me, the abundant illustrations were very helpful. I learn better by doing and aside from having the author right here with me, the book's illustrations are the next best thing. If you are in doubt about this book, just buy it and give it a read. It is well worth the time if you want to build a solid foundation for your photographic skills.

This book is the first in a series of Digital Photography 101 books that this author plans to publish and is geared towards beginners in digital photography.

Modern cameras have so many settings and capabilities that can be overwhelming to a beginner. If someone doesn't explain you the basics of it, you will be lost and not use camera's full potential. This book will really help you to get the basics before you start using your camera, especially if you have moved up to the DSLR level where options get much more manual and less automatic.

I like how the author builds quite high expectations in the introduction of the book, and manages to fulfill them fully throughout the book. There is really no prior photography experience needed to absorb the content of this book. The topics discussed are clearly explained and follow nicely one another, increasing your practical knowledge with each chapter.

Another thing that I liked is that the book is very visual. It has a lot of pictures that are a great help in understanding the concepts that are discussed. It actually should be like that for any photography book, but many other books on the market are much more difficult to grasp because of it.

The value this book provides is much much higher than the price paid, so I fully recommend it!

Knowing almost nothing about cameras and photography other than pointing and shooting, I chose this book from the many offerings to begin to hopefully learn more about the subject. I have not been disappointed, because Mr. Judge's stated goal is to make photography and cameras understandable for people who know little to nothing but want to learn, and he meets that goal very nicely. I am amazed at his ability to focus on teaching people, like me, who have done basically nothing with cameras other than point and shoot. There is a wealth of useful and understandable information in this book, and I most definitely plan to obtain Volumes Two and Three when they become available. In addition, Mr. Judge has made himself available via email (which he responds to quickly and in a most pleasant manner) to answer questions and receive and discuss comments from his readers. I would recommend this book to anyone who, like me, is a novice when it comes to cameras and photography and wants to learn more. The book is well worth the price of $4.96 or it can even be borrowed from the Kindle lending library with a Prime membership. I hope to collect and read all of Mr. Judge's books on cameras and photography.

It's a fact that photographs and pictures are everywhere nowadays. Almost everyone can easily take photos through his camera or smartphone, but do we all really make the most out of our photos? This eBook will take you by the hand and show you all the things you need to know to improve the quality of the pictures you take and also present you the evolution of cameras. It will also help you choose the right camera and also explain you in simple words what their capabilities and new technologies are. What I liked the most is that the eBook is very visual. After all it's about photographs and there's no way to better describe the subject than showing it. Also, there are really lots of illustrations and charts that will allow you to understand a Digital Camera's insights, what it consists of and how it works. That might sound unnecessary, but believe it helped me a lot with my pics. Especially if you need the photos for you work or even for pleasure, Mastering Digital Cameras will surely boost the way you handle your camera. In general, I would highly recommend this eBook to any reader who wants to get to know cameras and everything around them. Looking forward to the sequels.
