About the Author
Serge Kahili King, Ph.D., holds a doctorate in psychology from California Western University. He has studied with master shamans from Africa to Hawaii and has trained thousands in his popular seminars. He is the president of Aloha International, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the aloha spirit of peace through blessing. He is also the founder of Order of Huna International, which teaches workshops in personal effectiveness and trains shaman peace-makers and healers to work in modern, urban environments. King is regarded as a kahuna kupua or master practitioner of the Hawaiian shaman way. He is the author of the world's largest selection of books on Huna, the Polynesian philosophy and practice of effective living, and on the spirit of Aloha, the attitude of love and peace for which the Hawaiian Islands are so famous. He also writes extensively on Hawaiian culture and is a novelist as well. For more about the author please visit his website www.huna.org.

I can't recall for certain how many times I've gifted it but I know of at least 5 or maybe 6 times. I love this book and will buy it again.
The Huna Way is "secret" but don't expect to learn any dramatic insights here. Neil Strauss is a fan but I'm sure he just used it as a stepping stone to greater literature. The more you have read new age or self-improvement books the less you will get out of this text. Mastering Your Hidden Self uses new age ideas combined with Hawaiian culture. The book throws out a host of paranormal ideas such as orgone energy, Kirlian photography, telekinesis and more so don't expect a book of practical techniques. However, the book is interesting as you learn a little about yourself through meditation, concentration, relaxation and the copious metaphors scattered throughout the text. Some don't like that story format yet almost every self-improvement author uses it in some way. Some reviewers have commented this may not even be Serge Kahili King's best work. Overall the book is good but not great in a very crowded field dominated by Anthony Robbins, Deepak Chopra, Rhonda Byrne and many others.
Check out Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins for a great self-improvement text.
